Matt & Madeline,
You don't know me, but I'm from Minneapolis and just read your story in the Star Tribune. I'm Felt compelled to visit your blog, as I was so touched by what's happened to your family. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have two young sons of my own, and I remember those first sleepless nights well. About two weeks into first-time-motherhood, my mother-in-law gave me a piece of advice that I didn't appreciate at the time, but is so, so true. She said in only three short months babies sleep through the night. At first that sounded like an eternity (and, at times, felt like it) but the point is that before you know it Madeline will be sleeping through the night, then smiling, then crawling, then walking, then talking... Enjoy watching her grow and live in the moment as much as you can. And remember you're doing a great job...every parent has doubts...I didn't know Liz, but I'm guessing you've made her very proud.

Blessings to you both.

Matt & Madeline - neither of you know me but I used to babysit your wife & mom and her sister Debbie when they were little girls and lived by lake Calhoun in Mpls. My family has been close friends of the Goodmans for years. I don't have words for the sorrow I feel for you for the loss of your amazing wife. I am so happy for you for the birth of your amazing daughter. I just had twins 15 months ago so I can relate to everything you are going thru (as far as caring for a baby) and going to be going thru in the near future. Wanting to fill the urge to help you in some way, I will be so bold as to offer my advice about all things baby. I cannot compare to close friends or grandmothers no doubt. But I am someone who has just gone thru the baby stage of life and come out the other side into toddlerhood to look back in awe of the miracle of the first year of life. If there is any wisdom I can give to you that you would take I would be so grateful.
Kindly yours,

I just read your message on Cribsheet and wanted to say that you and your family are in my prayers. Madeline is absolutely adorable. The "task" items will come. Your obvious love of your daughter will get you further than changing her diaper perfectly. So what if she pees on three or five outfits in a day? OK. You when you face the pile of laundry, but still...

Look at you and the use of modern technology! I'm sure Liz is smiling and loving your use of fun gadgets. I hope your 1st night without the doula went smoothly.
