Hahaha. I reloaded the page a few times, and keep finding a new style of header. I thought it was pretty funny, and also rather cute.

I liked the one which had all caps (possibly a Times New Roman kind of font), and Madeline on the line below Matt and Liz.

A little color is always nice. I suppose pink is out? I like sans serif on the web, don’t like serif so much, too hard to read. Also, I like some of the eresources out there that try to emulate a page. Much nicer to read than black and white. I know, I’ve read entire books on-line.
What about Lake Minnetonka? Or what about some of the flower shots? Worth some thought, I think.
    Good luck!

    The header…

    grammatically?

    matt, liz, and madeline

    You need an extra comma

    or…

    matt and liz and madeline

I like this. It’s the Arabic way to do it, by the way; to put “and” between every item. It connects alll of you equally.

The grey is sort of fuckin’ depressing.

A lot of the boxes and text bleed into each other.

It doesn’t quite seem, “Matt”-ish, to me. I guess what I mean is that it doesn’t seem extremely earthy as well as profane, yet intellectual and witty, with a touch of most-of-the-time-polite sarcasm, along with Midwestern attentiveness and pragmatism.

Add beer, dry humor, video games, bust-your-guts laughing at a Logelin comment, and an interesting collection of music and books.

And key lime pie martinis. :D

I’m just trying to get a discussion going, so critique / expand / say “WTF?” to anything I wrote above this paragraph.

Matt, it’s really fuckin’ hot here today. Enjoy the MN weather.

Matt, a friend of a friend of yours told me about your blog. It’s amazing.

I have three small children and I am compelled to give you some random parenting advice. The two best pieces of advice I can give are:

    1. Make sure M. learns to “put herself to sleep”, meaning you put her down in her bed while she’s tired but still awake. This is the key to developing good sleep habits.

    2. Of all the fancy diaper creams out there, nothing works better than a nice thick coat of Vaseline. I am miss organic natural products, but in this case, Vaseline, baby. Vaseline.

My third bit was “learn to breastfeed while lying down”, but I guess that doesn’t really apply to you.

    Have a great day.

The grey background is very soothing. Lots of greys abound, you might also try a warmer grey tone, just for experimentation. The grey makes a subtle but dynamic canvas for your photos.

I might suggest a hint of color for the title of the blog. A dark moss green might be just right (like #032d13), which picks up the olive tones of your flickr badge. Dark navy would work too.

Good typeface combination. You might also explore Palatino for your serif font, very classy. And you can’t beat Helvetica for sans serif, though I’m very fond of Trebuchet as well.

The photo of Madeline smiling at you is incredible.

Your story inspires the life giving traits of thankfulness, forgiveness, peace, empathy.

Well, I kinda liked the old style better. It’s just a thought but if this is going to be a website about Matt, Liz and Maddy then there should be a picture of them in the header somewhere……

Oooh, Maddy’s eyelashes would be so sweet for the header. I love that picture. Although, the green frond is nice too.

Matt, thanks for mediating yesterday. It’s nice to know where you’re coming from on things.

Aj - I have to say that it has grown on me. I’m even kind of liking the grey background now. The header still reminds me of an LSD trip (or what I imagine one would be like) - but overall I think you have done a good job!

I liked kubrick with the image. But I’m a pretty bland fella, so of course I’d like kubrick. :)

I am liking it so far. Except I keep waiting for more to load up and then realize that minimalist means less. Yeah I am quick like that.

sorry for the doublepost, but I just noticed the “random header image” script used in this theme.

The source is available there (and here). I’m sure that source could be reverse engineered if you wanted to use the feature here. :)

Your blog has already made me cry and laugh. I’m sorry to read of the tragedy. There’s no appropriate words probably to say that to a stranger.

    Madeline is a precious gem.

I really laughed at the post where you talked about going into the gas station to buy a lottery ticket at 2 p.m. with Madeline. Funny stuff.

I’ve added you to my blogroll.

Guess I’ll be a pain in the ass and critique as well. I think the header could us a little work. The comma after “Matt” runs into the”all.” Maybe you could layer them like that if they we’re different colors? or move the second line over so the comma fits into a space in the second line, or even use a different font to change the spacing.

You could also just ignore me…cause we all just know everyone is here for the pics of Maddy not the fabulous header. Anyway, I like the updates. Very classy. Gray is totally working for me. Nice job.
