I’m up…taking a break from decorating a wedding cake…would love to join you but albertville is a bit out of the city…why not walk down east hennepin and go into a real nordeast old time bar…the terminal…my parents own it and i’m qite sure my dad’s working there now…he new al nye when he opened nye’s polynaise…my brothers and i actually worked at nyes throughout our teenage years as busboys/girl…i only lasted a week…couldn’t take cleaning off other people’s plates! anyway…if you head down the street past surdyks and krasmarzucks (sp?) and toward white castle, the terminal is on the left side, middle of block…i’m sure there’s some band playing there as usual on a sat. night…say “hi” to my dad…he’s the old dude named “flem”…have a great night…i’ll be back to check if you took a chance at the terminal…and don’t forget to grab some sliders at the castle around the corner on central ave.
alyssa at creative cakes
Hope you have a blast, Matt. I’m perfectly happy to wait to see your pictures after the fact — I’ve always wondered what the men’s room at Nye’s looks like…
just spoke with “flem”…he’s there, the band is loud and he hopes you come in…the drinks on me…seriouisly, i’ll pay him later for it…remember, closing time is 2:00am!
alyssa
and talk about crazy signs! you gotta see the ones my mom makes…and all the knick knack crap in the souvenier cases…spelling sucks at this time of the am…it’s photo op heaven there…but please, this place is no reflection of me…that’s why i don’t work there!
not sure what happened to that post…anyway, the terminal is photo op heaven…the signs there and the knick knacks in the souvenier cases…the paneling and glass ball lights in rainbow colors…not a great reflection of who i am but have had fun growing up there…hope you’re on your way…
Dude! I was (sorta)- I work right next to the metrodome and got off at 12:30. Practically drive right by it on my way home to Brooklyn Park. Oh well, I’m at home now.
BTW- I haven’t introduced myself yet, I started to read your blog after it was in the Star Tribune. Your doing a wonderful job so far Matt!
nice! if you head back to n.e., you would be hard pressed not to totally love psycho suzi’s on marshall & lowry. tiki, tiki, tiki as far as the eye can see.
um…a bit of prior notice please i think we need to do a “where in the world is matt logelin” and everyone show up…instead of “matt lauer”. it was girls night out and i was actually talking about your story last night to one of my friends. how much longer are you and maddy here?
Good thing you posted that at 12:30 am–you could have ended up with a lot of creeps joining you if you’d given them enough time to find a babysitter/tear themselves away from the internet/make a t-shirt about joining you.
I second psycho suzi’s. You must go it screams tacky but its awesome! Went once and i am hooked. But now its 9 in the morning i suppose you could go out another night!
Well, fuck, we’re right up the road . . . with Grandma and Grandpa babysitters just a little further up the road. It would have been great to creep you out for the second time in a week, but we were sleeping! Hope you sang some crazy karaoke and took some crazier pictures (and no one got punched in the head).
I’m thinking the L.A. gathering should be held at Smokehouse in The Burbank so we can show off OUR weird old dining establishments. That place was in a Rockford Files once. Or maybe Musso & Frank’s — they make a Cosmo with a sidecar that is INSANE. And I’m not normally a Cosmo girl.
Fuckity Fuckerson. I am in the OC where people are freaking out because it is over 75 degrees.
@Becky- You may want to take some salt off your game there, sister.I kind of like being an Internet weirdo that wants a Tshirt made. I don’t want a tshirt so I can be freaky with it. I just want it because I think it is a nice gesture to donate some $$ to help M&M along. Should I just donate sans tshirt, sure but, why not support the good of the community?
A little off subject of your post, but I was just given a link to your blog and I’ve spent the last hour or so reading everything. I made my husband come over and read all of this. You are amazing.. So strong. I can’t even imagine the things you are going through. Your strength seriously puts me in a state of awe. Madeline is so unbelievably lucky to have you as a father, and even more lucky to have had Liz as her mother.
Hey Kate in Northridge—Is there going to be a gathering in our area? I’d love to meet marvelous Matt and Baby Maddy. I’m hoping someone has forwarded his blog over to Ellen. She loves stories such as his . Take Care.
ahh, drinks are what got me escorted out of the office and put on medical leave for a month. well, that and 40mg of valium for an emotional breakdown at work. doh.
Dammit! If you weren’t such a vampire and this had been 12:30 *P.M.*…now then I might have taken you up on it. And, as Kathleen said, stalked you for the second time in a week.
@Joanne: To clarify, I am 100% pro-Logelin. If that means t-shirts, I support it. If that means shaving our heads in the shape of an “M,” well, I’ll buy the shaving cream in support. I was merely being a little facetious in my post, which incidentally, does not translate well via the internet.
@Cindy: We are indeed trying to get some people together. E-mail me: katesiegel (at) yahoo (dot) com and I’ll give ya the info.
Funny you should mention “Ellen” — a girlfriend of mine at work actually did forward his blog over to her show! It does seem up her alley. No reply that I know of yet tho. I e-mailed the Pasadena newspaper and the LATimes.
@Becky- well played! Yes, the internet does not allow for the snarkiness that I am so fond of. Big virtual slap on the ass. Now, i get the humor and agree.
@ Becky, I’ll bring the razors…maybe we should start with Jill first?

@Matt – Maybe you should enter us all in your phone book so you can text us when you pull an impromtu creepy get together like that so we can all actually show up! Think all we do is check your blog for the “Where in the World is Matt L.?” game? ok, wait – seems that’s what we DO do! HA!
Hope Nye’s was a blast – when isn’t it? and that AJ’s bar tab wasn’t too high -
Hi Matt & Maddie, I’ve been following your website since I read Liz obit in the Star back in March. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s great that you are back in MN, I especially loved the pictures by Garrison, made me realize that though I’ve been going that way for almost 40 years and 10 with my kids we’ve never stopped for pictures, will need to do that on the way home next time. Also thought of you while at the Twins game last night and we literally went by Nye’s on the way home from the game. Hope you’ve enjoyed your stay. Keep up the great work with Maddie she and you are both very lucky.
Matt–
Had to tell you about this site I found today (I dont want to give it away until you see it) and am totally pissed that I didn’t know about them when my daughter was Maddie’s age, she’s 20 mos now and they don’t make them in her size Let me just tell you this, Liz would be laughing SO HARD if she saw these and would surely grab a pair for the little shoe diva…. heheh GO!! RIGHT NOW!!! http://www.heelarious.com/
Wish I was closer and could have joined the fun at Nye’s…I don’t know bout you but I think a trek from Boston would have been a bit too lengthy !!!
@Darcie–Great idea about Matt getting in touch with us more directly. I don’t think we’re bugging him enough yet! : ) [Just so everyone knows, that again is meant to be humorous...and I, like Becky, blame Jill for all misunderstandings. I also blame her for the high price of gas. Oh, and I blame her for being an idiot.]
@matt–GREAT weather for the wedding today. Hope all went well. This sounds so weird to say since I have met you exactly once…but I will miss having you in MN! Don’t go back to LA just yet!!! It’s been nice seeing your pic at local hotspots, and knowing that you’ve gotten to spend so much great time with your family. I bet they don’t want you to go either…
After three days traveling in a car with my one year old, I could use a drink with some like-minded souls. Too bad I’m a little late to the notice. Matt, Do you notice the MN accents more every time you come back? I do and it makes me crack up every time. I love, love, love the accents here….my family included (sorry family). But people in the MN, please don’t ever change it, seriously. Not sure how long you’re in town Matt, but let me know if you’ll be out again…would enjoy putting a real face to my mind. My daughter gets a “Logelin kiss” every day…to respect.
BeckyP I love your post below: I especially enjoyed your support of the head shaving, buying the shaving cream is fantabulous, will you also be shaving heads? What a supporter!
Matt, I’ve posted to you awhile back, and I’m posting again (watch out! beware!) I have a disease that has thrown my mortality to the forefront. I have four children-9, 9, 7, & 5. Your blog gives me comfort, knowing that people survive, humor intact, gives me hope. I know my husband is a tremendous person (he married me, right? LOL) I know he is a an amazing father, but seeing someone come out on the other side of what you’ve been through gives me a great amount of hope that no matter what is thrown our way, my husband and kids will be okay. Thank you for this, there is no way to let you know how much of a gift this is, in a completely and morbid fucked up way. Pour some out for the homies. (Or ponies, according to my youngest, who is five.)
All of the best, with my hopes and prayers for you and Maddie;
Lisa
@Joanne: To clarify, I am 100% pro-Logelin. If that means t-shirts, I support it. If that means shaving our heads in the shape of an “M,” well, I’ll buy the shaving cream in support. I was merely being a little facetious in my post, which incidentally, does not translate well via the internet.
I thought of you so often with the wedding yesterday. I’m guessing it was almost certainly your first wedding since Liz passed away…and probably brought back a lot of memories of your own wedding. I hope you were able to think of your wedding in a happy way…but knowing you, even if you WERE having a hard time, I’m sure you were more than able to celebrate whole-heartedly with your friends on THEIR happy occasion…you’re just that kinda guy.
Good Morning Matt – Me again, it’s Sunday am and hopefully you are resting after a wild night at the wedding – If the bach party was any indication of how much fun that crowd can have…look out! Anyway – I believe your time in the MN is winding down and no offense to your Cali fan club but I bet if you put a poll on this website for who thinks you and the divine Miss M. should just STAY in the MN – it would be overwhelming YE S YES YES! We are all enjoying getting to know you. Our families are thanking you for making those of us who read/write every day better people. Think about it – you have lots of STRANGERSfriends who would help you pack your stuff up in LA…
@Darc: After all this talk about (and pix of) the MN, I’m ready to move there! Matt should work for the travel & tourism bureau. He makes it look like heaven without even trying. I wanna go to the Screaming Fetus or whatever that place is called.
@Kate in the N: as a former upper midwesterner (WI) now in LA, I often feel the same way, but you might want to see the winter installment of Matt’s pics before renting the moving van. nothing against the wintery north — our family may move back — but it isn’t for the faint of heart. my mother-in-law’s house had 2 feet of snow around it for our last visit and had 80 inches total this winter. yikes.
I agree with what Darcy and others have noticed — there is a nice peaceful happiness in you Matt (and Maddy) in these pics and in your postings from the MN. Home and family seems restorative, healing, happy.
I agree about MN. Never been there but the pics are making me want to visit.
My hubby is jealous of your fishing trip! If you ever want to visit NC for some cool beach fishing he would be happy to take you and of course I can babysit!
@Kate in the Northridge – your post made me laugh. It’s the ELECTRIC Fetus…but perhaps they should consider changing their name. “Screaming” seems to be a good fit somehow.
Matt may be doing too good of a job making the MN look great. We Minnesotans don’t want too many people to know what a lovely state we have because we’d like to keep it all to ourselves. (Of course, Matt happens to be here during the nicest weather we’ve had in like a year…if he were taking pictures when everybody looked deathly pale and cold and depressed, you may have a different idea about our state.)
Yesterday it was a perfect day (in terms of the weather) and I made a comment like, “oh, I guess weather like this is the reason why people live in LA ‘cuz there they have it all year”. But then my friend pointed out that we appreciate it more because we only have it like one week a year. We say things like that in the MN to make ourselves feel better about the other 51 weeks of the year. Oh, and we have an annoying superiority complex. You should hear the jokes we make about Iowa!
This comment is way off the subject of Matt now. So I will conclude by saying to Matt that I’m happy the weather cooperated during your visit. And I agree with all the others that your visit here seems to have been a good thing for you.
I just thought it was really cool that I went on an Eddy’s fishing trip yesterday up on Mille Lacs. I recognized several signs from your previous post. I didn’t realise we were headed to the same place until I say the Tuesday special sign up there.
Note: I am one that has been watching behind the scenes since the story ran in the Star Tribune.

nowhere near the hood. Could use a drink tho. Have fun!
It’s only 10:42 here in the CA. It’s still hot here and a cold drink sounds awesome. Enjoy!
I was just up and wondering what I was going to do about my insomnia. I could bring down the robot puppet I haven’t managed to get in the mail…
Somebody have a shot of Grand Marnier for me!
Is Nye’s in Mississippi?
Oh. Oh well, then. Have fun.

Dang, hubby wanted to move to Eagan a couple years ago. Too bad I wanted to stay in Kentucky.
By any chance, is AJ buying babysitters, too? No?
Dammit!
Hope you have a blast, Matt. I’m perfectly happy to wait to see your pictures after the fact — I’ve always wondered what the men’s room at Nye’s looks like…

I’ll be right there. Although I suspect the Nye’s won’t have my ‘brand’ of wine – you know, from a box.
How’s it hanging Matt?
Hi to the G-units & the Missy Moo (who by the way was awfully, awfully cute at the Twins game).
More fishing, yes, I believe more fishing is in order.

Crap, wasn’t even close. Let me know if anyone decides to go to Floyds after the wedding tonight. That is in my neck of the woods. Drinks are on me
I wish! My hubby is the one who goes out… I am the one at home with two kiddos. Good thing I love the little buggers.

Ahh, Nye’s. Haven’t been there in ages. Good stuff! Any chance you’re goin’ to the Poodle Club for breakfast?
I wish I were in the neighborhood. It is 108 in the Northridge…..people are spontaneously combusting out here…yeah, I could use a drink.
@Becky: You made me scream!!!
@Alyssa: I’m dying to go to The Terminal, meet Flem, and see the weird shit in there!
I gotsta get me to The MN. I belong there, instead of here in LA with all this toney crap and plasticine people. Bless their cold, dead hearts.
I second psycho suzi’s. You must go it screams tacky but its awesome! Went once and i am hooked. But now its 9 in the morning i suppose you could go out another night!
I just checked the blog this morning and I was in the area last night!!!! SHOOT!! Hope you had a great time!
Psycho Suzi’s is a fun place. I was at Elsie’s bowling a kick ass game of 74…and still beating the boyfriend
Hope you had a great time @ Nye’s!
Sorry I missed it! I could have used a drink and some adult company. Hope you try again!
dang! i missed it.
If you are ever in the land of plastic again, I would so be there.

@K in the N aka Cap’n BWHAHAHAHAHA Screaming Fetus…you make me heart happy
I just thought it was really cool that I went on an Eddy’s fishing trip yesterday up on Mille Lacs. I recognized several signs from your previous post. I didn’t realise we were headed to the same place until I say the Tuesday special sign up there.
Note: I am one that has been watching behind the scenes since the story ran in the Star Tribune.
