i've been lurking on your blog for weeks now, but just wanted to say that you are doing such an amazing job with everything. my heart breaks a little everytime i read the blog though b/c i see a lot of me and my husband when you describe your relationship with liz. and that is just tough.

i can only imagine how proud liz is of you, at how well you're raising madeline. she is such a lucky little girl to have you as her dad. lots of love and hugs to the both of you.

p.s. you are doing a great job picking out clothes for miss madeline! the dress she had on today is super cute. she is totally the envy of the baby world. :)

Matt-

Lovely photos, as always.

Has anyone ever told you that you look just like the actor Peter Krause? Well, I think you do.

Kris's post reminds me of a funny story. (Yeah. I'm full of 'em.) I hope it puts a smile on your face this AM:

My first daughter was a total cue ball -- all she had for a long, long time was a beautiful (but nearly invisible) coating of white blonde fuzz on her head. By the time she was turning two, it had FINALLY grown enough where it could actually lift off her scalp, or -- gasp! -- move around in a breeze.

So on the morning of her 2nd birthday party, while I was getting her dressed (and mostly for my own amusement), I said "Maybe you should wear your hair differently today." Her eyes got really wide and she started to get upset. "Nooo!" she said, "I want to keep it on my head!!!"

@ Matt--Pssst...hey...typically people EMPTY the cans before shooting at them. I'm just sayin'. Thank God it wasn't BEER...although anyone who would be caught dead drinking beer from a can probably deserves to have it shot through anyway.

I had breakfast with a dear friend this morning whose husband died of cancer when their son was five. It's been a few years now, and she's come out the other side. The amazing thing is, nothing seems to faze her anymore...things that would have the rest of us down in the dumps or bothered by life just roll off her back. Our theory is that she has already faced the worst life has to offer and come out the other side...what could be worse than what she's already been through...?

So my hope for you is that someday, probably far in the future, you'll be able to look back at 2008 and see it as the year life threw the worst it has to offer at you...and the year you survived it all.
