i waited on “the soup” guy at the diner i work at in seattle, where he is from. it was the day after x-mas a few years ago, and they were my only table in the place besides this old man that i had never seen before. he became a regular after this visit, where i had to cut him off his well whiskey and water after he was drinking ketchup straight from the bottle while sitting at the counter. (he no longer is allowed in the diner because of his bathroom etiquette, or lack there of. just one of the perks of my job!) oh, baz! why must you embarrass me in front of “the biz”?! im only this far on your blog, but want to catch up to present day. you are a rad dad!

Wish we would’ve stopped at that restaurant now on Saturday for brunch. We skipped it because there was a crazy line. I can’t believe we missed the chance to meet you AND Joel McHale. C’est la vie.

Is this a confessional now? Because embarrassingly – I too have forgotten TWICE. TWO times…two strap my daughter in! One day we drove from the mall to a doc appt – about 10 miles – I get the baby out, go to get her and realize I NEVER BUCKLED HER IN! CRIPES! Second time – about a month ago – we pull into the parking lot of a flower mart and my husband looks back at our daughter, looks at me and says – “um, did you know she’s not strapped in?”
AGGH! HOLY MARY MOTHER OF JEEZUS! I have been lucky – I hope it never never ever happens again! note to self – strap kids in, THEN load all the crap into the car! Sheesh!

I also cry and laugh when I am tickled, so I totally empathize with Madeline. Where can I get a huge plush bear like that? I believe it is the ticket to curing my insomnia… BTW, loved the onesies over the pants. they look so ballerina!

For the laughing/crying thing, I’d vote for 1) constipated 2) acid stomach or otherwise uncomfortable physically, but entertained! or… 3) just vocalizing

OMG–those sleeping pics are adorable!!! Also, that brown and pink outfit she’s wearing is super cute–you’re a very good baby dresser!

I think in that video she kind of felt like crying, but just couldn’t help smiling/laughing when you talked to her.

How cool you saw the Soup guy! He cracks me up!!

Hi there. My son is 10 1/2 weeks old and does that same cry/laugh thing. The sound is distressing, but I see no tears so I decide he’s thinking about crying for something but hasn’t made the full commitment to the idea yet. I love Joel McHale from The Soup as well, Liz quite obviously had good taste in men ; ) As for the stares, people always stare at babies and it does take some getting used to.

First time commenter but have followed your story from the beginning. You write brilliantly and father just as well. Thank you for sharing so generously at such a vulnerable time. My prayers are with you.

Your baby is so incredibly beautiful, she really makes me want another (and I already have four). The first picture of her in profile today in the car-seat (brown and pink outfit) shows your genes! Also? No dad could dress a little girl better. You are good!

Keep up the awesome work, you are an inspiration in many ways.
