How exciting! I love the dr appts (except for the shots part) to see how they’re growing. They grow so much during that first year. I second the Tylenol recommendation, it also helps if they develop a fever from the shot (common occurance).

I have been reading your story since it appeared in the Star Trib and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t check your blog! This is the first time I have posted. Being a stay at home mom of 2 (4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son) I must say you definately provide some entertainment for us during the day. My kids love watching Maddy smile and coo, they smile and talk right back at her! My daughter now will ask to watch Maddy smile on the computer, how cute!
I also want to say that my husband too did the pants over the onesie on our first born daughter who was a preemie (she was born 2 months early at 4 lbs 3 oz back in Oct 2003) and he came up with that idea on his own, at first I wasn’t so sure about it and then it became the norm since she was so tiny! I guess great man minds think alike!
Anyway, I am going to relate my guess to my daughter’s stats when she was that age, she had a huge weight gain between 2 months and 4 months so I am going to guess what my preemie daughter was at 4 months and that is 10 lbs 15.5 oz and 23 3/4 ” long. She is now 4 1/2 and just reached the 30 lb mark! She is still a tiny little princess!

So I was asleep and Steve came informed me that there were like 487 posts on weight guessing and I thought I had until tomorrow (from my brief read this afternoon), but he informed me I only had until 3 a.m. your time, not MN time, so I had him go get the computer and now I’m officially ‘weighing in.’ I declare that Maddie weighed in at 11 pounds 3.5 oz. (and given that I was over by .5 oz last time, I’m not taking any chances). 21.75 inches.
Regardless, Mags says, she can’t wait to hear how the appointment went.

Today was definitly one of those shitty days. Reminders of my own shitty life kept popping up, even at a photo shoot where the girl had no clue about my past.
Anyways about Madeline. In the pictures she looks like a little peanut, so I’m going to guess that shes 23.1 inches and weighs 9lbs 5.3 ounces.
I haven’t taken care of a baby in a while so you’ll have to forgive me if I’m way off!

OMG I have been waiting for this day for TWO MONTHS!!! I cannot believe I missed out on the guessing contest.

but I have long thought that the reasons- the attributes in Matt that have us ‘all’ coming back each day are likely the exact same attributes and gifts that tell us how Matt found such a light giving- profoundly beautiful and obviously kind hearted partner in Liz.

I believe matt has found an outlet to help him with the loss of his beautiful liz. In a heartbeat he would turn it around to have her back. It is obvious that Matt and liz were full of energy, love life, had an awesome group of friends, loving family and love for photograghy. Liz loved all these qualities in Matt and it is obvious to me why she married such an awesome man to be her husband and be the father of her child.
I think Liz is smiling down on what an incredible job her Matt is doing with their little Madeline. She would not have wanted anything less than what Matt is doing, how he coping or how he is raising and loving their daughter. All the pictures he has shared with us show that this is the way they lived their life.
If anyone is not thrilled with the way Matt is dealing with his pain and the loss of Liz…it is simple…Don’t read his blog.
I admire Matt for sharing his love of his wife and his daughter with us. The pain and the tears as well as the laughter and the joy of watching his daughter grow. I don’t think Matt is doing anything differently than he would be if Liz were by his side. The only thing that has changed is he is doing it alone.
I am sorry that “lee” lost a soul mate as well but don’t tell someone to “Stop the madness and to be the person liz loved” when someone is choosing to deal with death in away that is different than your own.
