Liz Goodman Logelin Memorial 5k Walk/Run Update

Creep Becky here…

A quick update regarding the Liz Goodman Logelin Memorial 5k/Walk Around the World. As I previously mentioned, there is an optional $7 donation and the money will go to both Madeline/Matt and other families in similar situations. What is most important to Matt and Madeline is that you all walk on September 21st and remember Liz. However, if you would like to make a donation (of any amount, $7 was chosen simply because it was Liz’s favorite number), a special paypal account has been set up for this and future walks. The link is located on the right side of this page. It has been absolutely incredible to see all the states, countries, continents and time zones that will be covered on the 21st! I’m sure the pictures will be equally as awesome. As always, feel free to leave questions in the comments section and we’ll get them answered!

Matt, Liz and Madeline have touched the hearts of so many. Matt has shown the world what love and devotion can accomplish. I hope this fund will help him and others in his shoes to stay home a little longer with their babies.

    Thanks for the update, Becky…

I live in the twin cities and would like to participate in the walk but due to the fact that I am 7 1/2 months pregnant, I am not sure if I could make it on a 3 mile walk without delivering a baby on the path. Is there anything else I could do to help in a different way?

    Thanks!

So if you would like to join me and my rent a crowd email me libbiebrand@hotmail.com. I stumbled across this blog a few weeks ago…as a mom of two, I found myself crying and questioning a lot of things…this could have happened to anyone and it is so heartbreaking. I love the updates…I love seeing Madeline and she looks just like her mom to me!! Happy to donate…what’s $7 to almost anyone? It was a smart idea. Good luck with the walk!

Tomorrow, I’m going to be celebrating the 30 years that Liz graced this earth with her wonderful spirit, her indescribable joy of life, her infectious laugh and smile, her kindness and thoughtfulness. And of all the people she touched, my thoughts are going to be particularly with Candee Goodman, Liz’s mother. Because on that day, 31 years ago, she brought Liz into this world. For all the mothers out there, who know the amazing bond between a mother and her child, this day must be especially difficult for Candee. For my part, I’m so thankful that Candee and Tom Goodman did such a wonderful job raising Liz to become the special person that she was. Even though I only knew her for a couple of years, she touched my life in way that no one else ever has. That kind of specialness was not only inherited genetically, but it was learned by years of love and attention from two wonderful, committed parents.

I’ll be walking my 5K out here in LA, and thinking about Liz and her family every step of the way!

I’m going to take my kids around the forest at UBC in Vancouver, BC. I came across Matt’s blog from Jackie’s blog. I am so touched by this story. I was told I was at high risk for an embolism 33 hours into my labour with my first son. We had a c-section and everything ended up fine. But my husband was horrified that I came close to the same story… We read the blog daily. I hope this is some small way that we can help Matt and Madeline. :)

Sending my warmest thoughts to you today, Matt, and to all of Liz’s family and friends, especially kind, loving, amazing Grandma Candee, who had such a special day 31 years ago today.

(Just a thought that might provide some “ceremony” and comfort to Madeline on all the September 17ths she has to come, and perhaps a cathartic outlet for those who were there: Each year, our tradition is to start my childrens’ birthdays off with my telling them their birth stories. Both the joy and sadness of Madeline’s is well-documented, but maybe someone could write Liz’s own birth story down for Madeline, so that she might know of her mom’s first days too, and hear the story each year?)

You were all very much in my thoughts yesterday also, while I attended the funeral of another young mother who died too soon. Not as young as Liz, not as sudden, but without question, it. still. fucking. sucks. It just does.

Hope you’re at least able to enjoy the glorious MN sunshine today — it’s almost, but not quite, as bright as Liz’s smile. Very much looking forward to celebrating her on Sunday at Lake Calhoun.

Asalamalaykom Flowers in the Garden of Awesome,

For me, the thing that made sense, on a somewhat senseless day (a 31st birthday without the honoree), is to talk about Matt’s Liz.

I actually do have a blog. I never posted the website here. I was fearful. Fear traps us from sharing and stops the love from flowing.

Today, however, I created through my words and Matt’s pictures (with his permission) a posting which I want to share.

    http://afterhardship.blogspot.com/2008/09/ramadan-17-make-it-count.html

It is only one way to celebrate the most lovely Liz. It is not the only way. Like a diamond, she has many facets.

    Asalamalaykom Mr. Matt,

It’s been a long journey so far and today is really a huge milestone. You have reached it. You are living through it the best you can. There are no “supposed to’s” today and no “shoulds”. Whatever gets you through the day is just right.

    Tomorrow will, inshahallah, be easier.

To Liz’s mother and father if they see this- extra special hugs being sent your way today. Your Liz is a star that shined brightly on earth and is still shining in the hearts of many. You raised an exceptional daughter. I’ve heard the loss of a child is the worst pain imaginable and I’m so sorry Liz’s incredible life came to an end way too soon. She will always be remembered by countless numbers of people.

    Hi Matt –

I’ve read the blog since I saw the story in the StarTrib. I would love to participate in the walk; however the Twin Cities 3day 60 mile walk for breast cancer is this weekend in St. Paul.

Please know that I will be thinking of you, Maddy and Liz on Sunday as I walk to the state capital, sending good thoughts toward Calhoun where you will be with friends and family.

Good luck with the walk and I plan to participate next year.

    Dana

    Matt, Madeline and Family~
I hold you all in my heart today with the deepest of all sympathy, love and support as I do everyday but I know special occasions ache alittle deeper. Getting to know Liz thru this blog has made my life feel so much richer and deeper. I truely feel blessed by reading Matt’s blog and learning of he, Liz and Madeline. Her smile and eyes make me “feel” how full of love, life, happiness she is -to me she simple radiates the pure essence of being a genuine, beautiful and happy soul! Though on some days when I “feel” the pain Matt lives, my heart literally aches for all of you and your loss. I try to focus on the beauty and gift she brought all of you.
Happy Birthday to the most vibrant and beautiful flower in the Garden of Awesome!!

I’m Liz’s cousin. May have met you at Maddie’s first pool party. Tell me more about the logistics of Lake Calhoun on Sunday. Is there a “start” time? Is it really a run and/or walk, or is it more of a social event (not to say one is better than the other…) My daughters and I plan to attend, and want to be prepared for the correct type of event.
    Thanks

@Melissa: At this time, t-shirts are only available to buy online. Unfortunately, we won’t have any to sell at the lake, but if you don’t have a shirt, just wear pink and you’ll fit right in!

@Barb: There is no official “start time” in terms of walking/running. We are gathering at 1:00 pm and I imagine there will be quite a bit of socializing. I believe most everyone does intend to walk around the lake (I’m not sure if we’ll have any runners…). We are thinking of this more as a “big picnic” than an official race because a social gathering is allowed at the lake, but an official race would require permits, insurance etc. So for this year, it’s a gathering of Goodmans, Logelins and their friends, family, and stranger friends, and next year we invision a more formal race with sign ups, official starts, etc. Hope that helps! Looking forward to seeing you again!

@Emily: If you’d like to mail your contribution directly to me, email me rrk895 at hotmail dot com and I’ll send my address. You are awesome!
