(determined to catch up…soon.)
***sunday***
woke up a whole
bunch of times
to check up
on a baby who
wasn’t here.
got up for good
at 6:30.
wanted to go get
madeline, but it
was a little to early
to wake up catherine and
her family.
waited until i heard
from them then drove
to their house
to retrieve my child.
madeline was asleep
when i arrived,
so i talked to
everyone for a bit,
hoping that she
would wake up on
her own.
i waited as long as
i could, but i finally
had to roust madeline
from the crib she
was in so
we could make
it to our next destination.
spent what seemed
like forever packing
up madeline’s possessions
(she was gone fewer than 20 hours…i had no ideashe had so much shit with her).
thanked catherine and
family for taking
such good care of
my child then
headed east to
the sierra madre to
the home of gentle
ben and patient dana.
ben had an idea…
a photo shoot with
the robots that
live in my house.
i packed them up
before picking madeline
up so we were well
prepared for the day.
we hoped to supplement
the robot collection
with a few new
ones but learned upon
arrival in the pasadena
that the toy store no
longer exists.
no problem.
we decided to pick
up lunch instead.
got back to his house
and had lunch
with his family.
after lunch it was time
for some photos.
first, a couple
of madeline
then it was time
to set the scene…
the robots waited patiently
but then gentle ben’s
artistry revealed itself…
a robot last supper.
awesome.
we got a few shots
before losing one
of the disciples
enough laughing
and photos,
it was time to disassemble
the whole mess.
drove home
in time to meet up
with adam and ivette.
they spent a few
minutes staring at
my child then we left
for dinner at
the french restaurant
in the atwater village.
we talked a lot
about how things
are going
as madeline slept
in her car seat.
lots of laughs and a
few tears as we
talked about
liz
and all the things
we are missing
because she’s gone.
had a great dinner
and managed to
convince them to have
some dessert.
madeline still a perfectly
still and sleeping
baby, we left the restaurant.
got home, said goodbye
and went
to sleep rather quickly.
we are exhausted
and i am not looking
forward to next week.
lots of stuff to do
before i return to work.
***monday***
monday was a
quiet day.
we celebrated madeline’s
27/52 week birthday
with a little shopping
trip for the items
necessary to start
her on solid foods.
then we went to
pick up some items
in anticipation of
madeline’s first day
of daycare.
we managed to avoid
the saddest clown ever
and drove home,
spending a few
minutes in the front
yard, enjoying something
we don’t see here
very often.
madeline fell asleep
before 9:00 so i
cleaned for tomorrow.
went to bed too late.
feel asleep
worried about the
enormous bags
under my eyes.
***tuesday***
another tuesday.
don’t feel like
leaving the house
at all this week,
especially not
today.
really just want to
be alone with
madeline so we can
enjoy our time
together before we
start our new,
separate adventures.
but today
we had something
that we needed
to take care of.
we had a photographer
coming to visit us.
she and her assistant
met us at the
house and then joined
us at the park
for our play group.
kind of a bittersweet
day at the park.
it will be the
last play date for awhile
now that i’m heading
back to work.
i’m gonna miss these
moms (the occasional dads)
and the kids.
i hope to find
a way to regularly see
these folks…
they’ve been such
a huge support
system for the two
of us.
we spent the morning
posing for photos,
and enjoying the
almost unbearable heat
and the company.
the crowd
began to thin
a little after noon so
it was time to
head back to the
house to continue
the shoot.
the photographer took photos all
around the house
and at one point asked,
“can we get photos of her eating?”
umm…
well, i’ve never given
her solid food.
hell, her highchair is
not even put
together yet,
but no time like
the present, i suppose,
especially because
there’s a rad
photographer here
to document the
whole thing.
after what seemed
like hours,
her assistant and i
finally got the highchair
put together.
even though there
was someone here
shooting the event,
i couldn’t help
but take a few
shots of my own
of my baby’s
first attempt at
eating (somewhat) solid foods.
i took my seat
in the chair
next to her
and coaxed her to
open her mouth.
she sucked the soupy
rice cereal from the spoon.
some of it
actually made it
into her mouth,
but most did not.
after a couple of bites
and a few looks
of confusion,
she gave me
a shout of (i think) joy.
i would say
that this was
a success.
the photographer agreed,
telling me she
had all the shots
she needed.
i thanked her and
her assistant and
said goodbye.
can’t wait to
see the photos.
you all may
see them
somewhere someday.
we were exhausted
after the photo shoot,
so we both took
long naps.
evening came and
we spent it
watching our favorite
american league team
lose a one-game playoff
to the hated
rivals from chicago.
it was too much
for madeline to deal with
so she went to
sleep early.
i stayed up thinking
of our future,
not sleeping
until it was almost time
to wake up.
madeline chose this
night to start
sleeping all the
way through the
night once again.
awesome.

Wow!!!!look at her and the cereal!!!! I love her hair too. Matt, you are doing a fantastic job!!!!!
Just wanted to let you know you and Madeline were in my thoughts today. I hope your first day back at work went okay and Madeline enjoyed daycare. I think you are totally rockin’ this dad thing. Hugs from Texas!
WOW what a busy few days you two had! I love the robot last supper shots! Too funny!
Miss Madeline looked to enjoy the cordon bleu cusine you provided, well compared to formula it probably tasted very exotic!
I am sitting here hoping your first day at work is going well and that you and Madeline both have a happy day.
Keep on Keeping on.
I was thinking of you two today. Hope all went great!
Those pics are adorable. Madeline’s expressions get cuter by the second and I love her fuzzy hair do!
The robots last supper pics seriously had me about to pee my pants! Totally classic!!
Matt, it has been a pleasure to read about your relationship with Madeline. Take my word for it, picking up a child at daycare and seeing the look of absolute joy in their eyes to see you again is a phenomenal feeling. Good luck at work.
So did her tummy tolerate the new stuff, she couldn’t be more photogenic even with rice cereal on her face!
the first pictures of her she is just absolutely adorable . . . those eyes, that smile. She is her Momma’s daughter!
And those pictures of her eating – she reminds me of a baby bird with that fuzz on her head and her little open mouth.
The robot pictures – those are just fucking ridiculous!!
I hate to get to the end of your posts . . . I wanna just keep on reading. I need to be caught up. I need to know how today went. I know it was hard
You are doing a fantastic job!! Such a big girl eating cereal! Just wait until she starts feeding herself
Hope your first day back to work went smoothly for both of you.
It really is insane the amount of shit a small person needs with her on overnight adventures. Those first couple of pictures of Madeline are absolutely stunning. And the robot photo shoot was hilarious.
I love her facial expression in the first shot at Babies R Us (yes? I recognize those price tags). Is she holding a stuffed elephant?? ROLL TIDE. (Sorry.) (Not really.)
Man, playgroups, and the support you get from them, are awesome. Hope you’re able to keep up with some of y’all’s new friends despite your return to work.
HER HAIR! In the rice cereal pictures! Is THE AWESOME!
Finally, STOP RUBBING IT IN MY FACE that she sleeps through the night. Bastard.
Seriously, I thought about you a lot today. Hope it wasn’t totally horrible. I bet the smile Madeline gave you when you picked her up made up for whatever anxiety you experienced during the day without her. You hear this a lot, but it’s true: you’re fucking fantastic, and she’s not so bad either.
I love seeing Madeline in the Dr. Seuss shirt. Still my favorite author.
I am sure the food helped Madeline sleep through the night. I hope it continues.
My little Carli gets a smoothy before she goes to bed. I put a little cereal in with her milk before she goes to bed.
Still thinking about you guys and hope your day went well.
So cute! I thought and prayed for you a bunch today! I am amazed you had time to update us all and try to catch us up. Hope work went well.
Matt, I hope your first day back to work went well for you and for Madeline, her first day at daycare, aswell. Great pics from her first ‘dinner’ and the robots..well, what can I say??:) Too cool! Anja
that hair! those eyes! how fucking cute is that?
Ah, cereal…so much fun, great job, daddy!!! You survived the day, great job! Looking forward to hearing about your first day back to work and Madeline’s first day of school. Congrats!
Madeline smiling on the second picture looks SO much like Liz.
The Robot’s last supper..what can I say??? HILARIOUS!!!
I didn’t get at first until you mention it… just the thought brings a smile to my face.
I hope everything went well for you today. I’m sure people at work had to be happy to have you back, and Maddy by now has to be the most popular girl in daycare.
Matt, I hope your first day back to work well for you, and Madeline’s first day at daycare went good . Madeline is so adorable, and is getting more beautiful each day. You are doing fantastic!
Loved this post. She is so beautiful. Can’t wait to see the rest of the photos. Hope today went well for you.
“you might see them somewhere, someday”
Why do you tease us so. Now I won’t be able to concentrate on anything except this quote and wonder where it will be. Oh, the anticipation!!!
Thought about you guys all day… Hoping it was a good start to the next chapter…
Matt,
Hope your first day back to work went well, and that Madeline enjoyed her first day of daycare. As I recall the separation was harder on me than it was on my girls. It gets easier though.
Your first day back at work and you’ve already had time to put up a new post too?? I’m mucho impressed!!
Hope it went well today!!!
::hugs:: to you and the birthday girl!!
Madeline’s smile is so so awesome! She has the cutest smile and from the looks of it, she must be doing it all the time. Her daycare workers are going to love her.
How cool is that that you had a professional (not that you’re not) photographer at your house to document Madeline’s first bites?! She’ll really treasure that some day.
Hope your first day back at work was okay.
Looking good! She looks great in her highchair, and don’t worry…your much hated rivals from Chicago didn’t last long against Tampa Bay. Can we hate on Tampa Bay together?
Just got to tell you that the fact that your “warning” page links you to pictures of baby animals cracks me up!
Did you and Ben help the robots finish the wine at the last supper? Just wondering.
Glad you were able to have some quality time with Madeline.
I love the rice cereal pictures and her cotton puff hair! I want to reach out and touch it. Could she be any cuter? And you’re so right about the crazy amount of “stuff” kids require. It’s insane. Hope your first day back went well. Can’t wait to hear about it.
It’s always fun to see the photos from flickr come to life in your blogs.
Looking forward to seeing those photos… someday. Let us know when before they get sold out!!
Cheers
GO PORK.
Love the first couple of pics of M. So adorable!
And, I’m convinced that rice cereal has these directions on the back of the box: Feed to baby 1-2 times during the day. Warning: Baby may sleep 1-2 hours more than before.
Hope your first day back went well!
I love the way her hair looks red and is sticking up….too very cute. glad to hear she liked the solid food. just wait until you can add the sweet stuff…
thinking of you and returning to work.
Hope your first day back at work went well, and Madeline did ok at daycare. Can’t wait to hear about it!!
Don’t know if I’ve ever commented before (I think I have)….I’ve been following you guys for awhile (on the blog, not literally)—think about you and pray for you often. I live in the Studio City and am a pediatric nurse practitioner. I think you are doing a fabulous job with Madeline–she is a lucky little girl to have such an awesome dad. I’ve also been meaning to ask—is the French restaurant you’ve been going to in Atwater called Canele? I’ve been wanting to go to that one for a long time. I would love to meet up with you guys sometime. It seems like you have a great support system–but if you ever need one more. And don’t hesitate to bug me with medical/developmental questions–I’d love to help in whatever way possible. Keep up the great work (with the baby and the blog)!
~Emily
Matt,
The pictures of the robots are a riot! Thanks for the laugh! THe feedings will get easier and she will be eating like a pro in no time! Was thinking about you two today and your first day back to work! Hope everything went smoothly!
Take care,
Debbie
Love her spikey hair. So cute.
Very busy indeed, and here i thought i was busy with three kids..you beat me for sure.
You were both in my thoughts today – I hope all went well for you two.
So…we might see the pictures “somewhere someday?”…..hmmmm….do you have something else up your sleeve?
Hope you guys had a great first day. I’m trying very hard to overlook the “hated Chicago” comment.
I thought about you a few times today and wondered how your first day back at work went. I remember being so distracted and sick to my stomach my first day back after being home with the babes.
Madeline probably had an easier time with it than you did since she has been exposed to so many strangers/friends/aunties that have been loving to her all her life. I bet she lit up like crazy when she saw you come for her though!
Here’s to a calm transition into your new adventures…
I hope you will still find the time and energy to keep us up to date on how life is treating you guys.
Madeline is growing so fast. I hope your first day back at work was good. I’m sure leaving Madeline was hard, but it does get easier.
Awesome pics….I especially loved the ones of her eating. Unfortunatley, I missed that 1st bite-of-solid-food milestone with Joey, as my in-laws took it upon themselves to feed our son his first solids while they were babysitting. I was FURIOUS at the time, but have since decided to forgive them…(and hold our next one a little closer).
Thought about you today…I know everything went just fine and Madeline was a little star! Have a great evening.
Wow! Painless on getting started on solids! good for you! Hang in there, can’t wait to hear how your days are at daycare and work. It can be a great experience!
I hope today went well. I remember the 1st day back, I cried on my break in the bathroom. But each day got better. The best part is coming home and saying hi to her and she smiles back like she missed you.
Too cute as usual, with one teeny tiny little mole on her forehead now. Another sign of her great age. I love her eyes, so clear and blue.
Take care
I was thinking about you today and hoping that it wasn’t to awful. I teach and on the first few days of school I cry most of the way to work after dropping the kids off at daycare. I have to agree with Josh in WI – the pick up at daycare at the end of the day is the best.
Madeline is getting so big. I love to see her pictures. She is looking more and more like her mommy each day.
LOVE that you put your sweet girl in the basket of the shopping cart rather than precariously positioned up top.
My first day back to work, I cried more than my baby did. Hope you are okay.
Hey Matt, lurker here.
So yeah, I feel pretty creepy for saying so but I’ve been thinking about you and Madeline a lot, especially as you plan to go back to work.
I am thinking of you as you get back into the whole work thing. I’m sure it’ll be hard (it was for me, and I didn’t have a fraction of the crap to deal with that you do) but I bet Madeline loves making friends at the new place. And eventually it’ll become the new normal for you both.
Best wishes,
sjaa
It does my heart good to see your posts, matt. Thanks for keeping us updated on your life.
Hoping you and Madeline are catching up with each other and comparing the day. Luckily, she probably got to nap, wouldn’t it be nice?
Looks like she loved her food! I love her hair too. She’s is so adorable!! Hope you and Madeline are adjusting well to work/daycare.
She is such a doll! Love that you were able to capture that special first with professional photographers around so you could really enjoy the moment while they took care of the cameras.
Hope the first day back wasn’t too awful.
OMG, you are going to either be in 1. People or 2. Parenting Magazine. Liz is so stoked right about now!
And is the Robot having Jager with his last supper?
Love hearing about the good days when Madeline keeps you busy,, Madeline is a gorgeous baby. .. Hoping she is helping you heal.
The last supper was genius! The rice cereal was adorable. The hated Chicago rivals…I was thrilled that night, but not so much tonight…those bums!
You guys were in my thoughts today, hope it went well!!
mad’s hair is absolutely adorable. i love the blond frizz, haha. it’s so cute. and i’m pretty sure she has some of the best expressions around.
Man, I have been so busy and neglecting my commenting…I still read religiously.
Her hair is so dang cute sticking up. Congrats on the new food experience. Yea to the White Sox losing and to the Cubs losing.
This creeper thought of you and Madeline often today and hope that your day wasn’t too difficult. My thoughts will be with you both tomorrow as you get used your new schedules and spend a Tuesday apart. May you find strength and peace… Jennifer
I was thinking of you guys today too.. wondering how your 1st day back went.
I can only imagine. I’ve been a stay at home mom for nearly 8 years now. I couldn’t imagine giving it up.
I love the cereal pics. She looked like she was enjoying it. She’s going to love these pics when she’s older, I just know it.
I LOVE her hair!!! And that highchair is just precious!
Madeline must feel like such a glamour baby with all those professional photography sessions. She’s a star like no other, that’s for sure!
Continued good luck with the solid food feeding!
PS- that’s a really cute dress she has on in the photo shoot- pretty colors!
Wow solid food. She’s gonna love that!
I was thinking about you yesterday and hoped you made it through the day alright. I, of course, remembered the day because its the 13th anniversary of my mom’s death. The day always sneaks up on me.
Hope all went well yesterday and you’re ready to tackle it again today.
Buen dia Matt
Wishing you and Ms. M a very nice day!
Just a comment….I know you do not want unsolicited advice but, here the FIRST solid food (recommend by our pediatrician, of course!) is smashed potatoe, smashed pumpkin or smashed banana….
besos y abrazos
Sol
You totally are going to be in People magazine, aren’t you!!!!!!
Thinking of you guys this week…
Solids, are off to a, erm, solid start then?
Keep up the good work, and I hope all is going smoothly with your new adventures.
Loved the Robot photoshoot. To funny.
Madeline is absolutely adorable! She looked like she was really enjoying the cereal. Great job, Dad! ;o)
Love the hair! I’m sitting here wondering how your first day back went. And seriously, we need a shirt with the robot last supper on it.
I’m sure someone’s said this already – but I’m too lazy to read through all the comments LOL. My kids didn’t care for cereal too much unless I put a little bit of baby fruit in it – just enough to flavor it. Then they ate it like crazy!
I hope you both do okay with the daycare situation!
As a mother of three, I have a secret to share on getting babies to eat solids. Put them in a bouncer seat or car seat instead of a high chair. When the baby is not sitting straight up, the food does not fall out as easily. It makes for more food in the tummy and less on the face. It took two kids for me to learn this trick. (Though you are clearly doing a great job without my unsolicited advice!)
Cereal…yet another milestone! I hope you fared well on your “adventures” yesterday. It will take some time to adjust being away from your beautiful girl, but it does get easier. And I’m sure she will enjoy her new friends at daycare. You are doing a great job…I’m sure Liz is beaming with pride.
cutest baby ever.
Woo hoo for sleeping through the night again just before you start back to work. Gotta love that girl! She knows just what you need, doesn’t she? That first week or two back at work is killer, but you guys will both adjust. She’s such a happy, easy-going baby, she’ll do great at daycare. Wishing you both the best with the transition.
That first picture in this post of Madeline looks so much like you, Matt!
Good luck going back to work! It’s hard for all of us, hang in there.
Looks like Madeline did a great job with the solid food! And you did a great job giving it to her. Don’t give up..as long as she gets a taste of it in the beginning, that’s what matters. It took both my girls about 2 months to actually open their mouths for food and eat more than 1 spoonful. Now they’re both great eaters! It was important for me because my husband is a picky eater but I eat everything!
Thought of you many times yesterday and continue to do so today. Hope both days went well for the both of you.
Christine D.
I think you have just about the happiest baby I have ever seen.
Love, love, love the robot photo shoot. Would love to see some more recreations by the robot team.
Hope yesterday (and today) went well for you two.
I enjoyed the Robot last supper. Nice. I personally believe the robot you lost was the betrayer . . .
Madeline’s hair gets a bit fuzzy in the high chair,eh? lol too cute!
Loved the photos of the robots. That was great! Sounds like you guys had a few busy days there!
Awww the first time with Solids. My daughter was fed in her bumbo (we didn’t even have a highchair yet…hehehe) and I think over half of it, ended up under her butt, her sitting in it! hahaah she was just in her diaper and she LOVED it! We have two jack russells so they did the favor of cleaning her up. (well mostly, then I did the rest which including a bath!) But the first few times with solids, they get most on them rather than in their mouth.
Solids will be messy for awhile. Hahah I remember my daughter wearing her chili all over her face and hair hahahaha
You are doing awsome! Hope work is going great and Madeline is enjoying daycare!
Matt- I was just recently turned onto your blog by a friend and spent 8 hours reading from beginning to end, crying along the way. You are a remarkable person and an amazing dad. Although I know there is sadness involved, there is also so much joy you share, and you have a great way of doing exactly that.
I just had to comment as I LOVE the pics of Madeline eating, her hair is just perfect standing on end in excitement. Much love from Oregon!
So glad that Madeline’s first eating experience was a good one (the video of her eating is great)….loved the robot photo shoot.
Read this in the paper today and thought of you:
“Earlier this summer, fourth-generation candymaker Joseph Marini III introduced chocolate-covered bacon bon-bons at his stand on California’s Santa Cruz Boardwalk”
I wonder if they are any good? Sending you good thoughts today.
Amy from Louisville in the KY
Hey Matt,
Hope your 1st day back to work was great. You are OVER the hardest part, hopefully Miss Maddie enjoyed it and is makin lifelong friends already
. Love the pics, the first one made my day.
I’m sure you already know, your best reward for a hards days work is going to be that SWEET little smile. Make sure you get all the time you can, cuz watch out…time is going to start FLYING now!!!
Love the first picture of Miss Madeline in the store – she loves shopping! I’m glad her first experience with solid foods was a good one.
Matt? You ROCK.
You are both on my mind today, wondering how yesterday went and hoping that today isn’t too hard as you spend your fucking Tuesday apart.
Glad you were able to get the momentous occasion of Madeline’s first solids on film, how awesome is that! I love the hair, too, too cute!!
Just wanted to give a shout out to your first day of work yesterday and your second today. We’ve been thinking of you both and hoping that Miss M enjoys making new friends and you find some comfort in work. Coming from working parents – the balance is never easy, but boy do we look forward to seeing that baby at the end of the day.
Peace – Kathleen, Steve & Mags
Impressive – first day back and you found time to post – Not bad at all!!
Seriously the robot did shots at the last supper? Was it grape juice? Hook a robot up with some whiskey will ya!
Looks like the Apostle John swooned clear off his chair. Or does the blue color make him Judas?
The Da Vinci Code, Part Deux;
the Ugly Doll Conundrum
starring Steve Buscemi
Dude, it’s a baby Sid Vicious with that hair!
Looks like you plugged her in at the mains.
Gorgeous.
@Amy from the Ville –
Chocolate covered bacon is really not that bad, actually.

Scary clowns always remind me of that commercial of the baby who buys stock on e-trade or whatever, and with his earnings, hired himself a clown. And totally “underestimated the creepiness factor.”
She’s beautiful, Matt. My god, is she.
you are such an inspiration to single parents everywhere.
Thinking of you and Maddy and how your first day at work/daycare went?! I’m sure all went well! Loving the faces Maddy made while eating her cereal. The last one looks like she was gagging right before she gave you that smile
she’s adorable. Take care!
I love the beauty mark she has above her eye …she is adorable!!!
Can I just tell you how much I LOVE these pictures? I remember those first feeding days well…and it’s so cute to get to relive it again through your daughter’s eyes.
Thanks for the privilege.
What a doll she is.
GO RED SOX! ; )
I missed your first day back to work. I’m sorry. I hope it went okay. I know my first few weeks back to work really sucked and I missed my girl(s) more than ever. Eventually things got okay.
But even the best days at work are just okay till you see your kiddos again. Then they turn awesome and you learn to appreciate the short weekends even better!
I’m lucky now, for the past 2 years I’ve been able to work only 3 days a week and have awesome long 4 day weekends with my girls.
Take care and keep a nice photo of her close to your computer an use on as your desktop wallpaper. It always helps.
Hi Matt, I have read your blog for quite a while now and I am constantly inspired by you and Madeline. She is awesome and you kick ass as a dad. I have been wanting to send you an album that I have really enjoyed and I am wondering where i should send it.
Thanks,
Matt in Minneapolis
Adorable shots Matt! Love the look on her face in the shopping cart! So sweet. Hope getting back to work is going well for you. Can’t wati for an update!
Longtime lurker that’s been thinking of you and Maddie all day and hoping your first day back to work went a-ok! You’re doing a great job!
From the last supper to the first in one weekend!
I love her hair in the highchair pics and those eyelashes? How did I miss those before?
Wishing you well on your new adventure into “reality” – work, daycare, routine. I hope you are able to continue to make time to post – I need my MLM fix!
Hope you are doing okay with going back to work!!!
KInd Regards

Hope your first few days of work went okay. It’s always hard to go back to work and leave them with someone else. Somehow you both survive.
Looks like the food went over well, just wait until she tries fruit!
Asalamalaykom Mr. Matt,
Don’t know about you, but I can describe how I’m feeling—see if it matches.
I just feel a bit surreal about so many changes at once, since I’ve been back to work and Mr. Boo has started daycare. Of course, I’m in a new apartment too.
Oh! And no car still–anyone in MN want to donate a car?
We are creatures who crave routine, even if people like you and I love being all wacky with our schedules. I keep telling myself that this will all settle down and I’ll get into the swing of it inshahallah. You will too. Just keep swimming. For me, I don’t have it in me to blog much, even with so many great ideas germinating. I just feel too stretched to squeeze in one more thing. Dont’ you?!
You should have that robot be a guest blogger. Does he have a name? We could have a “Name the Robot” contest, before he appears in People Magazine, or was that YOU?!
Just wanted to mention something about bacon – there is the Bacon Martini (yes, it’s true) at the Double Down Saloon in Vegas. Amazing that I know this, being Jewish. Maybe it’s the tempation of treyf.
I hope the return to work today went okay…or at least that it wasn’t too overwhelmingly shitty and hard. That first day back at work after being widowed, even though it was 6.5 months after Charley died, was really tough, despite that I didn’t even make it through more than 2 or 3 hours at the office.
Hang in there….
Hugs,
Candice
Thinking of you tonight. Hoping that your return to work was as painless and smooth as possible for both you and Little Miss M. Transitions are so tough for all involved.
Sending you peace and light, Nena and Reese
I can’t believe how big she is getting! What a cutie pie. I hope your Monday didn’t suck.
@ all creeps (and others) who know (and love) Grandma Candee – her birthday is Thursday, 9 Oct!
That girl of yours is a cutie patootie. I love the first few where she has the Dr. Suess onesie on and then the highchair pics with her little hair sticking straight up. We’re curious…where will these professional photos be featured? An upcoming edition of “Fabulous Dads” or “Parenting” or something of the like??
I have been meaning to post for quite sometime and every time I am just about to hit the post button something comes up. But I wanted to let you know how much you and Madeline have been in my thoughts lately. I hope your first day back @ work and Madeline’s first day at daycare went well!! I can not imagine how long of a day that must have been for you and what an adjustment it must be for you both. I am sure you will settle into your routine soon. fortunately Madeline seems very social, well adjusted and goes to others with ease. Last week, I had to leave Sam for a day while I worked and he would not have it. Evidentally stranger anxiety must have set in that day as he would look at my friend and put his head down and cry!! I left EBM which he used to take from Dad but refused it from a sitter. He cried so bad my husband had to take off work and then Sam refused to eat all but 1-4 oz bottle of BM.Needless to say when I came home -10 hours later he was starving! I was a nanny by occupation, worked at daycares and Montessori and have first hand witnessed that it is much harder on the parent!! By the way I have always wondered -what do you do? I think you work for Yahoo??? !! I know you used to travel a bunch! (sorry curiousity got the best of me-had to ask)
Too bad Madeline wasn’t wearing her Dr. Seuss onesie when we saw you in August, Sam was wearing his that day-would have made a cute picture) Which by the way -the two pictures of her above are amazing. She is so photogenic and beautiful, you take and have some of the most amazing pictures. What an awesome talent to have.
I also wanted to ask you a ? about the babyhawk. But I do not want to bother you now as I know you have so much going on this week. Maybe you can write again when you have time and I will ask you then!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!!
Just and idea… I think you need to go to a weekly update. This schedule will give you the time you need at night to enjoy your gal and feel NO PRESSURE from the computer calling your name.. Life is about to get very busy…
Hope your first day back at work went well! I remembering crying as I walked out of daycare and the whole way to work that first day but it gets easier! My daughter is 18 months old now and LOVES daycare! She has friends she runs to now when we walk in the door and they have taught her so much like sign language and table manners! I think I will always miss not always being around her but now the time we spend together is even more precious!
Take care and hope all is well!!!
@Barb: Thanks for the heads-up! We try to be creepily on top of these things but we need some help once in a while!
