oh and Happy Birthday!!!!
You’re looking great, like you had a nice time…and Madeline, well can this child get any more gorgeous???? Sheesh, she’s keeping all the beautiful genes all to herself! Seriously though, I’m always glad to see the fun things you’re up to. You have a healthy outlook on the way you’re leading your life, and I find that admirable.
Welcome back – looks like her hair has REALLY grown! Glad you guys had a great time! Can’t wait to hear the deets.
So, so glad it didn’t suck.
Looks like you had a wonderful time. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip. Maddy just keeps getting more and more beautiful. I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
As a single mom, I know how hard it is to be alone, & how we ended up single with baby is very different. I cannot even begin to fathom the circumstances that brought you to this point.
BUT! here is my most important thought to you, despite everything:
!!these are in many ways some of the best years of your life!!
You and Madeline are both beautiful, healthy, and together. Maybe cause I’m a little older I don’t need to party or go out like I did when I partied my way into getting knocked up, whoops! So enjoy this time with your daughter and remember that you 2 are the center of so much positive attention. Just ask and support will be given.
Give that baby girl a smoosh for all of use who admire her on the web. Am going to bed now (8:30pm) to cuddle my baby girl (6 months old). Baby girls rock
Oh, rambling comment you must end…
Glad your birthday didn’t suck! Sounds like a great place to be on your birthday. I hope the two of you get lots o rest.
I haven’t posted often, but the new photos of Madeline are too cute. I love birthdays generally and am very glad to know that yours didn’t totally suck. Birthdays, to me, are a fresh start for a new year. Here’s to a new year for you and for Madeline.
So sorry we didn’t make it to Social to meet up with you! My little guy had his flu shot and just wasn’t up for a subway ride and decided to sleep instead. Hope you had a wonderful time here and I look forward to your next visit!
Asalamalaykom,
Welcome back…is it still home? Or, are you starting to feel more like the world is your home and your house is only one little corner? Friends do that, don’t that? They expand your world and help your heart to heal and grow. NYC is only one stop on your World Tour! I expect many more dates to be added over the years, inshahallah. Glad you are safe and not sucking.
looks like you had a great time, good for you!! lovin that little sweater you bought for maddy – too cute!! hope you get the rest you need!
Happy Belated Birthday, Matt! Sounds like an awesome weekend!
I’m lovin’ the Maddy photos. I’m working on that special gift that I wrote you about. Hoping to have it done soon. It’s going to be awesome! Can’t wait for you to get it.
Take care of that special little girl and have a great rest of the week!
So fun to see those shots from The City. Looks like Maddy never ceases to be adorable, wherever she goes! Glad the weekend was a good one. Flight went ok too?
Happy belated Birthday. Looks like NYC was fun. Did you go to the Broken Social Scene concert, too?
looks like fun!
Hey M & M…So glad you are home safely! Glad you had a great weekend. You are so loved!
Happy Belated birthday Matt- my son shares your birthday and we were thinking about you when he was blowing out his three little candles. Glad you had a good day too! Can’t wait to hear more!
Happy Birthday to you! I’m glad you have friends like Lauren in your life – she seems really sweet and genuine.
How do you have such an awesome kid who absolutely loves everyone? Does she ever have a bad moment? She’s a beauty!
Glad to hear you had a great birthday weekend!
Warms my heart and starts my day off right when I hear you had a good weekend. So my thanks to everyone who made it not suck, as well.
ps – absolutely love the photos of Madeline with the “Happy Birthday Daddy” sign!!!
Happy birthday Matt!
hi matt – happy belated birthday! you were actually in my dream last night (in a non-creepy way, but i guess the fact that you were in my dream at all makes it sort of creepy regardless) so i took that as a sign to comment, since i haven’t in so long…doesn’t mean i haven’t been checking back 20 times a day to see updates though!
i am happy your birthday weekend didn’t suck and the pics of maddy lately are just gorgeous.
not much else to say that is different from everyone else, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and madeline always.
I need a cast list.
Can someone tell me who all these aunties are? (and are there any ACTUAL aunties (sisters of Matt or Liz) or is every lady an honorable one?)
So confused….
You dress her sooo cute!! I am sure her mommy would be proud!!
Glad you are back and had a nice time!
omg…i love maddy’s outfits…you can so tell you are a dad…they all remind me so much of things my husband would dress our daughter in…she is so adorable she can soooo pull it off!!!!
What a fun time! I almost wet myself at Chrissy’s comment about making out! TOO FUNNY!
Happy belated birthday. Glad it was a good trip. Nice to see the fashionista having fun!!!
Hey Matt and Madeline! It was great to meet y’all- please let us creepy folks know when you come back to the NYC. And hopefully I can catch Madeline awake this time
Can’t wait to see your pictures!
Sounds like you had a good weekend which is nice. I cannot believe how many gifts you received while you were gone. Just curious as to if any of the stuff that she gets doubles on or has already outgrown or just the extreme amount of excess clothing and gear gets donated to the Salvation Army or to a womens shelter or some place? It seems as though this would be a good option for people who want to send her something to instead give to a needy organiztion in your, Liz and Maddy’s name.
Happy Belated Birthday! Glad you enjoyed yourself and had fun. The newest pics of Madeline are too cute!
I have lost count of the number of times people have yelled at me or pushed me for stopping and looking up at Grand Central instead of walking.
the picture above is gorgeous!
glad you’re home – hope you’ve had the chance to rest – looking forward to the recap!
hope you enjoyed your birthday weekend!
can’t wait to hear all about it!
HAHA Kate, you have to pick your times when you can do what Matt did. If you are doing it at rush hours when people are trying to catch a train to get home or to get to work, well, you are going to catch shit. Weekends are much better for that type of behavior at Grand Central.
the brunette in the last three pictures of “eating & getting some culture.” made me catch my breath, she was so beautiful!
I love when you post pictures!
Good times Matt and Maddy. The chicken was steller. Matt, rainbows are pretty and so is this blog. You’re #1. Meet me at the blog Oscars.
XOOOOO
ps: Guess I do have to come out to CA now that you’ve been here 2x.
Gotta admit that the whole “Brady Bunch” thing that Chrissy wrote about on Storked annoyed me. It didn’t annoy me that she said it, but rather that you actually have readers who are rooting for that to happen.
I’ve been reading your blog for months now, and through it I’ve started reading the blogs of many others who are grieving due to the loss of their spouses or children. It’s really helped me to better understand that grief isn’t just this simple five-step process…and it’s also shown me all the different ways that people grieve.
In my opinion, jumping into another relationship right after you’ve lost the love of your life and the mother of your daughter isn’t probably the healthiest way to grieve. But like I said, I’ve learned that everybody grieves in different ways, so if that’s what you decided to do, I’d say “fine” and continue to support you and want the best for you. But I certainly will never (or at least not in the first year after Liz’s death) root for you to “hook up” or encourage it. I feel like if I did that I wouldn’t be honoring the depth of your grief. I’ve read every word of your love letter to Liz (and Madeline), and if I were now to say, “oh wouldn’t that be so cute if you were to get together with X woman”, what kind of respect would I be showing for what you’ve gone through and what you continue to go through? And what kind of respect would that be showing for Liz, a woman who you’ve made me (and many others) feel like we know and love?
I’m not sure if I’m making any sense, but my basic message is: if you’re a serious reader of Matt’s blog and at the same time you’re thinking it may solve all (or some) of Matt’s problems to just find another woman…are you truly reading what he’s written?
@Davezwife from the Minnetonka – I think the only “real” auntie is Awesome Auntie Deb, who is Liz’s little sister (and she truly does seem awesome). I think Matt just has a mess of brothers.
Didn’t anybody else notice that New York creeps are just gorgeous? Looking at the pictures made me happy I live in the MN, where being dowdy is still somewhat acceptable.
Oh my goodness Maddy is just more & more beautiful every day!
Laura
@ anna – “mess of brothers” – HA!
glad you had an awesome weekend. looked like a beautiful weekend from the pics.
hope you’re getting a chance to catch up on a lil sleep.
have a good thursday!
Anna I agree with you. Being single from a random hookup and getting pregnant is totally different than losing the love of your life who gave you your other love of your life.
I respect that Chrissy kept her child as I would have too, but the comparison is different, and her joking about it on her blog about THEM hooking up was kind of irritating to say the least.
@ Anna and Melissa- I couldn’t agree with you more.
I love the jumbotron photo! That should make her a very ‘happy’ teenager one day. Too cute! As usual the photos are great. Also want to take a min to praise you for your generosity (whether it be cash, gifts or used items) to the single mothers. I know all too well about the challenges that face a single parent. It’s difficult to provide for your child(ren) when it is just you doing the work. Many people would not show this same generosity. Hopefully others will learn from you as well. Thanks!
ummmmm @ Melissa and Kathy in Berlin…for the record Chrissy did NOT get pregnant from a random hook up! She was in a relationship and got pregnant and the guy bolted! Your opinions are your opinions but at least get your facts straight!
Ummmm@ Myrna, I like Chrissy, and I know it was a joke. And I DO have a sense of humor.
I have read her blog, and maybe I mistook the sperm donor as what she referred to as not a boyfriend but a regular. If I made that mistake I apologize.
I DO respect her choice.
BUT. Liz’s parents read this blog, and I know if I was Candee it would make my tummy hurt, as well as my heart.
I am not on attack mode, just thought it was in bad taste. Hell, I grew up in the same town as Chrissy, and sometimes jokes go the wrong way. Hell, I am famous for offensive jokes. People that know me know I am joking, but well. You see what I am saying I hope.
Chrissy is a nice person, of that I am sure. I like her by default because she is from Wayne and victim of vicsous character assasination as a lot of our townies are. And as I have been.
I just thought it was a thoughtless remark, although in jest I am sure.
I love your blog and the beautiful photos of Maddy.
I’m a huge fan of Creating Motherhood, a blog by Callie, a young woman who is living with her mother and grandmother while taking care of GM, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, full-time.
After years of trying to conceive and many disappointments, Callie is expecting a son in about five months.
I think she would be happy to inherit some of the duplicates of donated items you received for Maddy. I’m not trying to be pushy or presumptuous, but she is one of my favorite bloggers and I know she would put whatever you wanted to give her to good use. This is totally my idea, I didn’t say anything to her about it. I saw that mountain of stuff that generous people sent you and I thought of Callie. I’m not sure how you deal with shipping the items you donate or if you even want to bother but I would be happy to pay for the shipping.
Matt, what an adorable picture of Madaline as Minnie Mouse. It put a huge smile on my face.
I can’t believe she can stand up on her own!
Looking forward to seeing you and Maddy over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Love You 2,
Grandma B.
