The way Liz’s hand is on your back as she waits for you to work your talent at the camera, Matt, you never have to wonder whether she loved you as much as you clearly love her. She did.

Asalamu Alaykom Mr. Matt and His Reflection,

Matt, that is such a beautiful picture. It’s amazing how things get tucked way back in our brains, covered up with other crap, and then, out of the blue, they’re rediscovered. So cool.

As I big punch in the gut these can be, how sad would it be if you didn’t have them?

You are luckier than some believe it or not :) , a friend I know has very few, other than wedding photos and a couple of drunk backyard BBQ’s at friends houses, of her and her husband. She longs for things like that sometimes.

Hope you are having a good week, and phew last week!

What an amazing photo. There is such tenderness in the way Liz is reaching out to touch you – though it might be hard to see that while the universe punches you in the face.

Thinking of you and Liz’s friends and family. It must be a huge struggle to cope with the holidays this year, but instead manage to live as joyfully as possible. What an awesome, awesome thing.

  38. Posted 12/8/2008 at 6:59 am | Permalink

I think somehow that was Liz’s way of saying she’s still by your side, even when you don’t feel her.
Sending love your way this season!

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your blog and your life.

Your writing and photos are fantastic.
And of course, so is Madeline. You are quite talented!

Liz may not be here, but she is definitely always ‘with you’ and Madeline. And I’m sure Liz will continue to find a way to send you and Madeline little messages and signals, even when you least expect it; just like the photo.

(My favorites are the fishing pictures) I do not think I seen one picture where she was not happy to see you and your camera. And after looking at your daughter’s pictures, I would have to say the same!

I have been reviewing your site since it crashed earlier, and it is so very inspiring. Through pictures, Liz seems like she was such a gentle, caring person. You must have loved her so, which can be seen in all the pictures you took of her (Madeline is so lucky to have those treasures of her mother, as are you!). You have been so blessed with the opportunities to visit other countries – I hope to one day do the same. Though 12 years seems so short now that it’s over, your pictures show a lifetime. You are blessed.
