Love the picture of Maddie and the Robot! I can just imagine Liz’s reaction! Can’t wait to hear the good news…talk about suspenseful!!!
crazy, matt! who knew that it had been one year to the date?? (well, besides you, of course!)
nbl~
I love it! Madeline dancing with the robot is just too precious! It looks like she may have just as much fascination with him as her father…
Madeline rules!
Oh and so excited to hear about your good news…hopefully it is that you can be a stay at home dad! I have a 9.5 mo old and it is getting a lot harder now that she is mobile, I think of you often when my husband is helping me feed her, change her, bath her, etc…you have to do all of it on your own! Single parents rule and I am in awe of you for doing all of this yourself, I honestly don’t know how you do it!
Have a great Thursday!!!
What a cute picture! Looks like she’s got a BFF in that robot!
What a cute picture. I have been thinking about you guys and can’t wait to hear your update. Happy year of friendship to you and the Robot!

Matt, I’ve been reading your blog for a long time now but I don’t usually comment. However, that picture of Madeline dancing with the robot is possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. She is so photogenic it’s just unfair.
Oh my goodness! Love the picture of Maddy and the robot!! Now I can’t wait to hear the good news!
Oh my!!!! She’s standing!! That picture made me gasp—soooo exciting!!

I love it!
you and your robots, matt. maddy is going to be quite confused when she’s the only girl in kindergarten obsessed with robots. check out my blog
He looks just as young as he did a year ago. Happy Birthday!
Matt,
I’m a long time reader, first time poster. I don’t know why out of all that I have read, that this is the post to make me comment….oddly enough, it is. Madeline is such a beautiful little girl, a reminder of your wife who left you with the greatest gift. I am so sorry that she isn’t physically with you to share, but I do believe that they stay with you somehow. Not even close to the same loss, I lost my Grandfather in Jan 07. He was my favorite person ever! He suffered for months physically with a smile. A month later, I conceived a baby on his birthday. None of my other children resembled my Grandpa, Evan is the spitting image, down to the cleft chin. It is odd. I also get that same feeling with Maddy, she really has so much of Liz in her and sometimes it must hurt to look, but then other times you are so glad to see that face!!!
Okay, way too long!!!
I can’t believe you bought a fucking robot!!!!
Angela
She’s adorable! Happy Birthday, Robot!
You should be a writer for “24″ the way you can leave us sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for your good news
Hope you have had lots of people donate to your charity!! Maybe that’s the good news…
At least Madeline appreciates the Robot.
Happy Birthday Mr. Robotto.
I’m glad Madeline has a constant robot companion in her life… every girl needs one! My poor daughter is without a robot but she does have a nice big brother who beats the crap out of her daily… not quite the same.
Like everyone else, I think your daughter is absolutely gorgeous! I can’t wait to hear the big news!
Jeebus!!! I can’t believe you’re making us wait!!!
::on pins and needles::
Looks like Maddy loves the Robot as much as daddy does. And though Liz probably would have (and is) rolling her eyes. She would have gotten a laugh out of it too. I’m sure she secretly had a bit of love for the robot…who wouldn’t. Can’t wait to hear your news!
Rosie
wow, that’s crazy.
she sure loved dancing with him though, didn’t she?

Matt, I was so pleased when I saw that you had posted. (I, and I’m sure many others, always worry a bit when you haven’t posted for a while.) But it’s seriously awful to make us wait for your good news. Please don’t keep us waiting for too long!
It’s very cold in the MN right now. I hope you have lots of warm clothes for Madeline’s next visit home!

I think Liz is smiling at this moment…. It’s a fabulous picture!! I cannot believe Maddy is standing!!
She’s holding that robot steady so she is!
I think Liz so would have loved this shot. I mean, she is in a dress and it is pink – what’s not to love!!
Really – the photo is too cute!!
Great Photo!
How many little girls can brag that they get to dance with Daddy’s robot? Maddy is so lucky!
What a great pic of Madeline and the robot!
Madeline and the robot make a wonderful couple!
GAH! The suspense!
Those chubby legs are going to lose their rolls soon! SO much excersize!
wow, what a year that robot has had.
and could he have asked for a more beautiful dancing partner on this anniversary? i think not.
hope you two are having a wonderful day!
Happy robo-versary!
My guesses at this great news announcement are varied:
1. The robot got a job;
2. Madeline is taking the avant garde piano performance on the road and all shows are sold out;
3. You taught the robot to say “fuck”.
I’m glad there is great news in your life; this time of year, especially.
xoxo,
j.
Please spill the good news……I have a feeling you have won something….or…..Madeline has!
Do not keep us in suspense!
Love the robot! I have to share MY robot story from the week before last – my 5 year old son went to his first rock concert . . . The Cheetah Girls . . . and I could not bear to get him a T-shirt to commemorate the event, but that would embarrass him later! Hey, the boy has two older sisters – blame them for the choice of venues! But we were lucky enough to find a toy store on the way in and he picked out a robot (on his own) that immediately made me think of you and Madeline! I took many pictures of him at his first concert – along with one of “robot” at his first concert as well! Promise to send them on to you, as only you will truly appreciate the significance! LOL – people around me were surely wondering why I was holding robot up, stage left, to get a picture of a toy!
AAAAAWWWWW baby robot love! Can’t wait for the update!
Take care,
Debbie
Matt, I love the look of excitement in your eyes in the first picture!
Can’t wait to hear your news…
Karin
Hey, is he looking down her dress? Maddy’s growing up and becoming more beautiful everyday…
You look like a proud Daddy there with your robot! Now you really are a proud daddy to the cutest little girl in the world :O)
Hey there! Just a reminder that Polaroid instant film is being discontinued, I love the tradition of robot photos on them so make sure you stock up!!!
p.s. you should have each person “autograph” the photo!
Matt
Time to stock up on polaroids! There was a recent announcement that they are seriously discontinuing them!!!
Damn cute, so damn cute!
I blinked and now she’s standing?! Crazy. She and the robot are darling. Can’t wait to hear the good news…
Happy birthday robot!!!

Someday Madeline is going to be the envy of her friends because of that robot – what an awesome picture
Matt,
Just read your story in People mag. and wanted to offer my condolences and support! What a heartbreaking thing to have happen at what should be the best moment of your lives together! I am so sorry!
But you are obviously doing a wonderful job with beautiful (dont tell my daughter I called her this-she’s very jeaolous!) little Madeline or she wouldn’t look so happy, healthy and loved!
This blog is an absolute wonderful gift that your girl will look back on one day and cherish with all her heart !
As long as Madeline’s got you in her corner she will be just fine!
Matt, I’ve have been reading your blog for some time now. I got the copy of People and the article is great. Liz would be sooo happy with what you are doing and the great job you are doing of raising Maddy by yourself. Just know that Liz is looking down from heaven and is so happy with you and Maddy. She will always be with the two of you no matter what. God bless you and your beautiful (Liz look alike, Maddy looks just like her mother) daughter. Praying for you.
what a great dad you are,Matt.how lucky Maddy to have you as her father.
