Matt, I saw you on Oprah and started reading your blog. After many hours of reading I am caught up to today. I cannot believe the journey that you have been on for the past year and a half. You can be proud of all that you have done. I am a 27 and have a husband and two kids, Charlize(3) and Brytan (.5). Since reading your blog I am living each day with a new found appreciation for my husband and children. Thank you for that. By the way, my sister in law lives in San Diego, and we are in Milwaukee, if you or we are ever in our or your area, I would love to meet you and Maddy! Talk to you soon!

Too Too bad I didn’t know of you back then. I could have hooked you up with a tour of Fort Campbell! Lots of great photo ops there, with all the old planes and helicopters on display! Next time you want to take a trip you should go explore Mammoth Cave, in Cave City Ky. There is also a cool riverboat trip my girls love to take…it would be a great experience for Maddy and you.

Huh. I guess it never clicked that your and Liz’s first date was the same night as my first date with my husband. 13 years ago Jan 26th.

I have a hard time sometimes coming to read your blog – because I came so very close to not making it through my own daughter’s birth – only luck and a miracle got me through… and I’m so aware every day of the fact that they were a breath and emergency experimental surgery away from being without me as well that it’s hard to even think of.

But you and Maddie make it easier to think of without crying. Even though it has been 6 years here.

From the first time I read your story and your blogs since. I have just been in awe of you. Not a day goes by that I don’t stop in to see how yours and maddys day has gone. You are an absolutely wonderful father to that precious baby girl. I know that your beautiful wife is looking down everyday with one of her liz size smiles and she knows that the two of you together will have a good and healthy and happy life together because she knows you are a good man and a strong man and that no matter what you will always put your maddy first before anything else. I admire you very much for being able to share something so painful but also so beautiful. I’ve always been a firm believer in talking, saying, writing it out and to never keep it in. If you do that it will just eat at you and then pretty soon you will have so much inside that you can’t even remember anything good to talk about. Thank you for allowing me into your world a bit. I have an 8 month old son myself and I know exactly how difficult it is to do it on. But it’s soooooooo worth it. The best part is just when they look at you, thats all my little guy has to do. He just looks up at me with those blue eyes and no matter what, all is well and thats what keeps me going. Good Luck..xoxoxo
