Hi Matt,

I saw the show on Oprah, however I'm from South Africa and we a bit delayed here and the show only aired last week. I've gone through your blogs ever since. I'm truly touched by your story and your Maddy is absolutely gorgeous. I've got a little one too, Nicole, she is 3 days shy of being a year younger than maddy.
Anyway, just wanted to pass some interresting fact for you, on Maddy's second birthday you should measure her height and double it. That is how tall she will be when she is fully grown. One of the clinic's nurses gave me this advise, however I still have awhile to go how tall my little one will be one day.

Matt, My name is Laura. I have a 6 month old daughter, MAkenzie. I lost my husband, John, on July 5th, 2009. He was killed in Auto accident. Does this get any easier? Your daughter is beautiful!

Very sweet Matt - those giggles are awesome. Also, as a mother to three blonde hair and blue eyed girls - (one who is still Terrible TWO and hard to tame) I've learned that the clip-in barretts are easiest. Also, I give my two year old her tooth brush so she can "practice" in front of the mirror and while she's occupied with that, I'll fix her hair. :) Just a thought.

I'm going to second the small, dime size elastic rubber bands - my daughter has very similar hair to madeline, and those work great for us. Even now, at 3.5, it's still a struggle to do her hair, sorry. <3

I cannot imagine you are able to read all of these comments, (because I didn't before I felt free to leave my two cents lol...) What works for my daughter...18-19 months old...is to sit her on the bathroom counter in front of the mirror so she can see everything that's going on, give her a toothbrush with that ooohhh sooo yummy fruity 'toothpaste' on it and let her chew away while she watches what happens to her hair. Now my daughter absolutely loves to see what is going in her hair and she wants to keep it. When I get one half of pig-tails up she grins sooo huge! Also, if you don't have all the tangles out, and pull her hair just once, she's done. We use the johnson's detangling leave-in conditioner every single night after her hair is washed and in the morning it is sooo easy to comb through. Make sure you gently comb her hair smooth and tangle free before you even try to pull it up. (of course, don't touch her hair at all until you have her distracted with the toothbrush or something)

Best of luck, especially keeping up with all these posts!

I've followed your story for quite some time. It hits home because my daughter and yours are the same age, except I think Kaylee is a week older than Madeline. The hair ties: you can get these little elastic cheap ones at Target. It's the only thing Kaylee keeps in her hair, although she does struggle to rip these out too. Good luck..

Her laugh makes me want to run home and have my husband tickle my lil one with his beard. Sigh, alas I am sitting at work waiting for 6pm to roll around!

You might try looking for some of the coolest barrettes I've seen, which I believe are magnetic, and therefore easier to put in? My friends little girl uses them, and her daughter actually tollerates them. Also, the little clips work good, and are fast. Mini hair elastics, too :) GOOD LUCK! (so glad I have boys... shaving in mohawks is WAY easier LOL) ok ok... so I'm totally jealous you have a little girl to DO her hair ;)
