long ago i
made some promises.
there was one,
that was replaced
by another.
and though she’s
gone, the promise
still stands.
she would want
that for you.
and so do i.
so yesterday,
i went to a
place i went to
many times
for your mom,
and made good on
the promises
i made those
years ago.
and you…
now you are
the one who
will wear the promises
i made to your
mom.

Beautiful picture of Madeline here as always:)Thank you for sharing Matt. Safe travels…Take Care.
She looks gorgeous in the bangles, and will cherish the promises made to her Mommy!!
Precious… You are an amazing person with a huge heart.
Adorable! You are fulfilling many dreams I’m sure this will be a great blog to print off for her when she is older and can understand a whole lot more in addition to your book of how you and Liz loved her so much! Keep up the good work daddio.
I look so forward to what you have to say. Your are a special person!
LOVE IT…She is BEAUTIFUL in bangles…I imagine, just like her mom.
That picture is TOO cute! I can’t get over how happy she is! What a great dad you are, Matt. Maddy is so lucky to have you!
I think she likes them!
Oh my God, Matt,,your words give me chills, and like another commenter said,,,’your blog is addicting”.
Choking up just reading your post. Maddy is one lucky little girl to have a Daddy who loves her so much
I am loving these little stories with the photos. They’re a great addition to the blog…and hopefully they’re helping you write your book as well.
Thank you, as always, for sharing. Much love to you guys!
how big is maddy maddy’s so big how cute
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these mini posts on your pictures. I think of you guys often and always wonder what time it is in India and wondering what you guys are doing. Keep the mini posts coming, they are great!
How adorable she is (as usual) how special that she will carry out and wear the promise you made!
Hope your enjoying your trip – looks like it!
Considering that some of them have made it down to her forearm, I’m assuming those are adult-size. The ones that are on her wrists seem child-size. If that’s true, I hope you keep those for her in safekeeping once she grows out of them so she can give them to your granddaughter as a connection to her grandmother.
Thanks for the updates!
my god, this is gorgeous. (the words AND the picture, but i would call her a “she,” not a “this.”)
she’s beautiful.
but robeez stink after a while, beware.
I’m crying. You are an amazing soul, Matt.
you are, in a word – AMAZING. God bless you and Maddy.
I have read your blog from the very beginning. You are doing an amazing job and a baby is never easy even with two parents sharing the baby chores and necessities of life. Maddie is beautiful and looks so much like her Mommy. She seems so happy and well adjusted. Enjoy your trip and make many memories together.
This photo melted my heart. She is so freaking cute!! And I love the promises you’re keeping to Liz for Madeline.

WOW…I am now bawling. Matt…you are wonderful
She appears to have somehow picked up on her Mama’s love for pretty jewelry. Keep up the good work, Matt!!
I have read your blog since I saw the article in people magazine, but I have never commented until now. I had to comment. Your words brought tears to my eyes. So poetic, so beautiful, so full of love. Madeline will enjoy reading these words someday. Keep up the great work Matt!!!!
Beautiful!
I am really enjoying your ‘new’ way of presenting your photos and adventures! Refreshing and fun! I like seeing through your eyes what caught your attention and your photos tell a great story every time. I love the balance, color, detail, humor, settings – everything! It all draws me in. So glad you are over there. Smiling. Writing. Sharing. Relaxing and making new memories. You chose well so you and Maddy and Rachel have great teamwork! Such a generous man to give Rachel this chance of a lifetime. And to carry through your promise to honor the two women in your life. Bangles! Perfect!
Love the photo! Must “sniff” stop “sniff” reading this blog at work “sniff”. Luckily I am pregnant and can get away with a few emotional outbursts in the office each week
adorable as ever!
Yes, her love of ‘bling’ is another thing in the DNA. What a dream, this trip to India. You and Maddy, against the world! Safe travels and love to all!
