hand-in-hand.

i love this

photo, taken

yesterday by your

nanny in india, rachel.

i saw it this

morning as you

sat on my

lap, crushing cookies

into crumbs,

crumbs that are now

stuck to my socks.

but back to

the photo…

when i saw it,

the lines from

a song immediately

started playing

in my head…

“we can ramble hand in hand across the grasses of our land
i’ll kiss you for each leaf on every tree”

your mom loved

this song, and i

can still remember

her

face lighting up

when this song

would play.

and i can

just picture her

face lighting

up as she

watched the two

of us,

you and me,

walking through

the grass toward

nothing at all.

tears are falling down my face. And probably Liz’ face, too. Who sang/wrote the song?

Beautiful, as always. As a mom, I can tell you she would be lighting up at this sight. You are doing such a wonderful job, Matt.

Thelicia got it right…you are walking hand in hand toward the future, even it’s a different future than the one you had planned.

Rachel~this picture is priceless. I’m so glad you captured this tender moment for Matt and for Maddy (and selfishly for us/me).

i see anything remotely like this with my daughter and husband.

you know, i feel like an ass even relating my life to yours and thinking of the ways that our lives are similar but so aren’t. but i guess that could be one of things that initially draws people to you and maddy. we are all very lucky that you allow us, the strangers/friends of the world, to observe your lives. you are actually making us better people by sharing your lives with us.

    lucky us.

The song is Hesitating Beauty by Billy Braggs & Wilco.

This amazingly beautiful photo takes my breath away, and I especially love the comments you leave under the photos…

Liz would be so happy to see that. I know that, because I am so happy when I see my husband and son walking like that.

There is nothing better then seeing a Daddy love on his child.

Ok, now I am crying – so precious. You sure do have a way with words! Can’t wait for the book. I just keeping thinking about the person Maddy is, has become and will become because of you and all of your adventures and life experiences. It would be pretty cool to hear from her in 20 or so years from now…and to see the person she has become…awesome.
