I haven’t purchased your book, yet (i’m a poor grad student waiting for both the time and measly paycheck to do so!), but I’ve been a follower of your blog for a while- you most certainly deserve it. So have a drink for yourself and then another with all of your readers in mind.

And then get on your essay! :)

Congratulations, Matt! That’s such great news. I don’t want to say I enjoyed the book because honestly it was heartbreaking and in that regard it sucked! Or if I was Matt Logelin I might said that it fucking sucked, but damn it was well written. I guess that’s how you know the good ones, they make you feel what they feel. So thanks for the depression, brother!

Congrats Matt &Maddy !!!!!!!!! U have shown us all that if we set our mind to something it can be… U R a great Dad & from what I can tell from Ur blogging, Twitter party etc.. a great guy! Brooke Ur a lucky lady ; ) Seriously, looking back at how unsure U were about so much. U & Maddy will always have that special bond. U have done all I left in the wind 13 yrs ago when I stopped writing my journal for my daughter while I was pregnant. So much has happened since then. I think the main was her biological father dying 18 days after she first met him. She has no answers for questions. Maddy has many memories U & family & friends can share. Kiersten doesn’t. Nothing. So raised glass (ok so its coffee) to U for.sticking to it & giving Maddy this gift from Ur heart!!!

Congrats, what a heartwrenching read and tribute to Liz, Maddy, and yourself. It’s so sad that you had to write in the first place. I loved the pictures of Liz in the front and Maddy on the back. Where can I find the interview with Brooke that a blogger mentioned? I would love to hear what she said since I think she is an extraordinary and compassionate woman. Oh and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at Maddy’s birthday pictures. She is definitely a picture of Liz here on earth.

It’s hard to find the right words, really. Liz would be so proud. Maddy will be someday.

    I hope you are, too.

Of the book, sure, and your brand new best-selling author status. But mostly, you should be proud because of what you’ve done, what you do, everyday, for your daughter.

That’s your Taj Mahal for Liz.

Just wanted to also let you know, after bawling through reading the interview with Brooke, on dating a widower, I think she is the greatest. I readily admit, when you first introduced her to us, I was leery but hopeful (more so just felt protective of you & Maddy). She has done nothing but amaze and awe – at the love she has for you and Maddy. I know you realize what a fabulous gal you’ve got and I’m just so happy for all three of you. It’s heartwarming!! On Friday, the 28th of March, 2008 I read an obituary, quite by accident, which haunted me. I somehow found your blog and have been following you ever since. Within a week of reading your blog, I even contacted Oprah and several other media sources because I knew that this story and the way you expressed the raw emotion was meant to be heard. Matt, I just read your book and then had to get the CD because I wanted to hear you read your story. You have touched me and given me hope; this is not an easy task. I am a cynical, pessimistic creature. Now, as a family I know suffers through the loss of a mother, leaving behind a 26 year old who is dying of cancer, I can only repeat to myself that there is a way through the darkest of times. You are inspiring and I thank you. Debra

If you travel the country you should stop in NH! I just bought your book. Can’t wait to start reading it! Thank you for sharing your personal story. That must be so hard. It’s going to touch so many lives! I thought of something when I bought it that’d I’d like to share with you. I hope you don’t mind.

My husband and I are just beginning to start a family. I was pregnant a few months ago and had an ectopic pregnancy. It was the hardest thing we’ve ever been through together…and we’ve been through a lot(including my husband going to war while in the Army in 2003 just 10 months after we got married) After the miscarriage, I began thinking what if something ever happened to one of us especially after we had a child? I don’t know what I’d do and I really don’t know what my husband would do. Your book has really made me think a lot. One reason I bought it (in the midst of a million reasons) was because if something ever happened to me I would want my husband to know that someone else has survived and thrived an ordeal this devastating.

Thank you for sharing your story. While writing did you think about putting in a table of contents? I thought it’d be neat for someone who has been through this and is devastated to be able to flip right to a page that is going to let them know they are going to be okay and read how you survived. Maybe a list of how you survived for them to read before they started at the beginning of the book. I don’t know, I was just thinking…

    Hi,
    I just had to comment:
    I just read your book,
    and was so moved.

Crying with congestion is never a good thing,
but I would read it again knowing I was in for the worst head cold/congestion/sobbbing headache that followed.

I too am sorry you had to be in a position to write this book, but Liz would be so proud.

    Blessings,
    Lori

I’m reading your blog for the first time since I just finished your wonderful book.

I live in Chicago and commute on public transportation…the past couple of days have been very tearful while reading your book. Never a good idea to draw attention to yourself on the CTA.

Thanks for the book and for sharing. You’ve done a marvelous job. With everything.

Just bought the ebook on Monday night and devoured it in two days on the train. It was so beautiful, and made me do lots of crying in public on the NYC subway, so thanks for that! You, Maddy and Liz have been in my thoughts all week, and your words have echoed in my head. Thanks for a beautiful book….

Not surprised! It was great, I read it mostly with tears, but had plenty of smiles in there too, as you recalled stories of you and Liz. Having never met Liz, but your blog follower and now reading your book, I felt like I knew her, so the heartache of losing her, was felt all the way up here in North Dakota too. I also read the interview Brooke did, and she seems amazing! You and Maddy are lucky to have that lady in your life!

Congratulations, Matt (and Maddy, and Brooke, and Liz, and the entire Goodman and Logelin families!)

I heard your story the day Liz died (we have a mutual friend) and it broke my heart. I can’t say that I’ve followed your blog from the beginning because, to be honest, I couldn’t handle reading it in the beginning. I have kids not much older than Maddy, and in my hormonal, sleep-deprived state I couldn’t take reading about your pain and loss.

One day, several months later, I felt strong enough to read the entire blog. I’ve been following ever since and read the book in one sitting. Your grace, strength and resilience are remarkable. Maddy, despite suffering a loss that no child should, is a very lucky little girl.

Best wishes for continued success, healing and happiness to you and your lovely family.

Hey Matt, Maddy Brooke and the entire Logelin/Goodman clan,

I never once doubted that your story would not be such a huge hit. Your story touched so many people’s hearts. I cried so much from the start and often got angry at how unfair it was for Liz! I am so very happy for you and all of your success. Today I read Brooke’s Q&A and it was wonderful. I felt so happy for all of you. SO happy for you to find happiness again. SO happy for Maddy and SO SO happy for Brooke.

I have read your blog from the start and cracked up at all of Maddy’s outfits.. I loved the pants UNDER the onesie look! Matt you have done such a great job with her. I am sure that your family and Liz’s family play a part but what a loving little girl!

BLESS you all and I will download your book tonight unto my Nook!

All my love and so many hugs

CONGRATS Matt!! Of course, I am not surprised that your book made both bestselling lists!! My copy arrived on the 15th and I was sooo excited to put my 5 month old down for a nap so I could start your book while my 3 year old was at daycare and my 5 year old at school (how bad is that!!). I started that afternoon, and with a few interruptions, finished the book that night!! I LOVED it…laughed along with yours and Liz’s humor and cried along with your heartfelt words and emotions!! Definitely needed the Puffs!! It is an amazing testament of the love you and Liz shared and the love you BOTH have for Maddy!! You have done an amazing job raising your beautiful girl and I know Liz is so proud of you and the “monument” you created for her!! I will definitely be reading this book again…was sad to see it end..and buying the audio version too!! way to go Matt…you and Maddy deserve all the happiness in the world!! Hopefully you make it to Canada for a reading/signing, as I will definitely be there…as long as it is on the westcoast!! :)

Mabrook! For yet another wonderful milestone.

I think Yosra’s on to something. A contest to guess the date that you hit #1 on the NY Times Best Seller list. You could do a contest for hardcover, e-book, combined. I’d look into my crystal ball for a chance to win a playlist CD or a drawing from Maddy. I’ll guess for a play date at Griffith Park with Brooke and Maddy while you’re gallivanting about on your book tour.

She has two small boys ages 3 and 8 months. I can’t stop thinking about her and we as her friends feel so helpless. Maybe one day I’ll give my copy of your book to her so she can read it, too. Hi Matt, read about your story all the way here in Greece. As an American in Greece with new baby, I enjoyed your story about going to the Dodger game and using the water bottle to feed formula to her. Very MacGyver like!

But, my wife also read it and thought it irresponsible to bring a new baby to a Dodger game with all the virus’ that she could catch prior to being vaccinated.

So, what can I tell her to put her in “chill mode” so I can take my baby to a ballgame here in Greece.

I finally got the book. Our little town has one book store. I didn’t see it anyplace and I just knew it wasn’t there. My daughter, who reads your blog over my shoulder actually asked a clerk to look it up. She asked me if the author was Matt Log,,something? Not that hard of a name is it? Anyhow, she went searching for the book and after what seemed like forever she found the only copy in the store and as far as she knows the only copy they ever had. It seems odd that only one copy would be sent. Maybe there was 2. As soon as everyone shuts up and goes to bed I can read. Thanks Matt.

Done. What that means is that I am done catching up on the last three years of you and Maddy. I saw your interview on Fox and Friends on 4/16 and immediately began reading your blog, starting with when you started. I’ve skipped lunches, stayed up late, sacrificed work time, family time…just to see what happens. And what happened is life. For you and Maddy. You both are thriving and in a way I am sorry that I am caught up. So, I guess the next step is to buy the book. That is at the top of my list for next week. Which will probably also mean, lunches, work and family may be sacrificed again. No, seriously, you have made me rethink some of the things I do with my kids. I’m trying to let them really feel life now, with their hands, emotions and bare feet. I’m hugging them more and can’t wait to get home to them at night. My husband thinks I’m silly, but what can I say :) Thank you for the story. The story of you, liz and maddy! (and now Brooke…so excited when I got to that part).

Yours could very well be the first book I read cover to cover in a while!

Just finished your book last night. I think I read it in a matter of 2 days. Could not put it down. I loved your honesty, your memories, and loved the drive you have to keep strong for Maddy. She will love you for writing this for her.

    Thanks!

I have just downloaded the book via iBooks, and I can’t thank you enough for sharing such a story with all of us! While I’ve not completed the book, your book has already made me rethink many priorities in my life.

Congratulations on a much deserved NYT recognition!

Matt, your book is SO FREAKING GOOD. Like, I overnighted it from Amazon and devoured it in two days, good. And I’ve got two toddlers. My reading time is limited, so it takes a reallllly good read to get me that hooked.

Thank you for your story. You inspire me in many ways.

    Matt,

I have been a reader of your blog since 2008. I have wanted to comment so many times, but never found the right choice of words. I just finished your book and just wanted to let you know that your love for both Liz and Madeline is so incredibly inspiring. Your book is beautiful. I have made my entire family and office go out and buy a copy. Maddy is so incredibly lucky to have you as a father. Congratulations on the book becoming a Best Seller…very much deserved.

    Matt,
I have read your blog for over 2 years now – I bought the book to read on our 12 hour drive for vacation, however, yesterday I thought I’ll just read one chapter and save the rest for Thursday when we leave…I had a hard time putting the book down and ended up staying up reading the entire book! It was so touching and you did an awesome job writing the book, as I was reading it I remember parts of your blog of trips you were on and pictures of different things you talked about in the book. Great job!

Awesome! So happy for you! I bought 3 copies, 1 for me, 1 for my Mom, and 1 for my Mother In Law who is always looking for things to read over the summer. It will be a story she will never forget for sure. I’m 1/2 way through and I agree with the pp, should come with kleenex.

I read Two Kisses for Maddy in two sittings! I bawled like a baby and am truly inspired by your love for Liz and Maddy. The book was beautifully written with just the right amount of “this fucking sucks!”. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know if I was going to read it, because I knew how sad it’d be. But I am glad I did, and Thank you for telling your story!

I’ve been following your blog since Maddy was born, and my son was born only 4 days before her. I love the story and am now reading your book. It’s amazing to read about the details we didn’t know from here on your blog. It makes me appreciate every day with my son just a little more, and with my husband as well. Thanks for writing this book Matt, I appreciate it.

    Matt,
Last week, I read your blog on Huffington Post. I’d seen you before on Oprah, but never remembered about your own blog. So, after reading your piece about your book, I came here and started at the beginning. In two weeks, I went through all your posts. It was definitely a sped-up version but it was amazing watching Maddie grow up and go along with you as you continued your path in life as a person, but also growing as a father. I’m a mother of two little boys, and seeing you do all that alone with the patience and sweetness, I was amazed. I never had that kind of patience and I have a husband to help me.

I’m happy you and Maddie have Brooke in your life. It’s wonderful that you’ve logged your story for your daughter. Hopefully now, you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of that labor (once all the touring is done, of course). I wish you three all the best in the world. It will be lovely to see how you three grow and enjoy future adventures. Good luck.

Your book was awesome. Truly. I have been reading your blog for a couple years now. What really drew me in was that Maddy was born 7 days after my daughter and that piqued my interest. And now, knowing the back story of you and Liz and reading of your love for her…wow. Not everyone is lucky enough to find love like that.

Matt – your book was one of the best books, if not the best, that I have read in a long time. I don’t think I have ever cried and laughed during a book – so that was a first. Your vivid memories and words made me feel like I was in the same place you were. You are an inspiration to me – so glad I found your blog so I can continue to keep up on you and Maddy! Take care!

I can’t wait to read it, I’ll order it today. I think it is so wonderful that you have been able to take a tragic situation and turn it into something so amazing. There are too many people that are just in or will be in your situation, and finding your book and the Liz Logelin Foundation will be so wonderful for them. It just might give a person the ounce of strength they need to get one foot in front of the other and try to live in a life they didn’t imagine.

Congrats! I was given a Kindel over the weekend and yours was the first book I purchased. Last night I got to the funniest line in the book– I believe it was about the mountain man with a baby growing out of his chest. I think I woke up the kids laughing about that one…

Congratulations on your bestseller! I just had my second son a week and a half ago so it was finally safe for my husband to bring my book out of hiding. I finished it during a 2:30 am nursing session last night – fabulous. I can’t wait to have you sign my copy in St. Louis next Thursday night. You might be my first outing since my baby was born. . . if not, you will get to meet my husband, who is sure he will be the only man there:)

I royally screwed up. I thought you were in St Louis tomorrow, but it was tonight! I have been looking forward to meeting you since the dates were announced. What an amazing book! I have followed your blog since Maddy was born. My daughter played on the same soccer team as Liz’s cousin, Andrea Gagnon, at that time. Once we knew of their trip to Liz’s funeral, I starte reading and crying, laughing and cheering you on as you share your stories. Your book shares so much that I have no doubt it will be a source of comfort for many single parents who have lost their best friends. I have no doubt the book will becomes one of Maddy’s most treasured possessions. You have written, as well, an amazing tribute to Liz and your love for one another. Thank you for writing your story…Liz’s story…Maddy’s story.

So, I’ve been stalking your blog for more than a year & only posted when you were giving out early copies, but didn’t say much other than “pick me”.

Now, I have something to say.

I’m not surprised at all that you’ve made it to the Best Seller list! I never buy new books (I wait until they are at my local used book store), but I couldn’t wait on this one. I’ve been saving my pennies for months & finally headed to my local Borders. I searched all the “New Release” tables to no avail. Finally went up to ask and discovered they had ONE copy in the ‘biography” section. I gave ‘em hell. I then went to our local book seller and asked them to order it.

It took me two days to read the book because (get ready for the crazy) I knew what was coming and quit reading repeatedly. A part of me felt like if I didn’t read it, Liz wouldn’t die. Oh, how I wish that were true and the book had just dissolved in my hands because it never had to be written.

Continued blessings to you & Maddy. You’re an amazing father.

    Valerie

I work at Target HQ, Downtown Mpls and take the bus in. I was reading “Two Kisses for Maddy” on the bus this morning and the woman next to me said ” what is that book about? Everyone I see recently is reading it.” I thought you should know that. Good for you!!! The book is very good, very well written and I can’t wait to pick it up and continue reading it daily.
