okay, so the random number generator finally got around to picking a winner, and that winner is commenter #114, amber l. a copy of two kisses for maddy will be in the mail as soon as i hear back from her.
in other news, the cbs morning show will be doing a story about my family, my book, and the liz logelin foundation. as part of the story, they met us in minnesota, transforming liz’s parent’s house into a studio:
and filmed the the liz logelin foundation’sfundraising event at the minnesota wild game.
(maddy and i even got to ride the zamboni!)
i’ll update you as soon as i hear anything about an air date, so stay tuned.

congrats! and can’t wait to see a link.
can’t wait to hear all about Maddy’s Batman party. Looked like so much fun!
If she doesn’t reply you can send the book to me!
I also cannot wait to hear about the birthday party…love the pics!
Great pictures and great news! I enjoyed the game and had to use all my willpower not to approach Maddie (probably stranger overload) she is so adorable.
How amazing for the foundation, to get that kind of publicity. You must be so excited to watch it continue to grow. When I look at the picture of a freaking CAMERA CREW in her parents’ house, I can’t help but think how proud (and stunned) Liz would be of all her husband has accomplished in her name…and even more so when I look at those smiley pictures of her mini-me, enjoying the spotlight.
You should be seriously proud of yourself and your family. I’ll never not be inspired by your ability to not only keep going, but to actually help others in the process. I know you hear it all the time, but you’re incredible.
I assume you emailed the “amber l” that won…because I am an Amber L…and I left a comment but I didn’t get an email and have no clue what # commenter I was. You have a lot of fans…lol!
yes, it was a different amber l. sorry about that…
No problem! Loved the book I bought and have passed it around to many. You are a treasure, for sure.
I saw your Batman photos. I LOVE that another girl likes boy things. My almost 5 year old is in love with Star Wars and wants a Star Wars party. We are thinking of getting someone to dress up as Darth Vader or Princess Leia. Thinking Darth might be too scary…for the guests.
I am sure your daughter and mine would be great friends.
So so awesome! Can’t wait to watch it!
Just have to say I just finished reading Two kisses for Maddy. It is by far my favorite book. I actually just made a post on Facebook about it. I wish you and Maddy the best!
I am so incredibly jealous that you got to ride the zamboni!!!! In all my years as a hockey fan and hockey mom, I have never gotten to ride that majestic beast
Dear Matt,
I just finished reading your blog. I read from the very beginning until your last post. I’ve been reading at all hours of the night. You had me crying, laughing and smiling. Your Maddy is adorable. I will be purchasing your book and reading it with a huge box of Kleenex.
Dear Matt,
Inspired to see your jorney as a single father. I can well understand how hard it must have been.
I also lost my wife on March 19, 2012 leaving behind our cute baby of 38 days.

I am horrible with words. My mother purchased your book and then gave it to me to read and said it was a really good book! i started reading it at work. i am a hair dresser so there is people around me and a mom of a 3 1/2 year old. I have never cried, choked back tears and laugh all at one time… it was a great book.. made me see things in a different light and appreciate the things we have in life.. to never take a single minute or time for granted. You daughter is beautiful. You have done an amazing job as a dad and a mom…. and in honoring your wife….
Walking through SFO this passed Friday I picked up your book and read it cover to cover that evening. Laughed, Cried, felt the hope and pain.
Getting caught up on the blog took longer than the book, of course, but now here I am. Moved and delighted to learn that in you have emerged as this person you never knew you could be. We all have dark times, thank you for sharing yours with the world and showing that time does help heal. It was wonderfully written, so honest, raw, insightful, humorous, touching, heart breaking, loving.
Wishing you, Maddy, Brooke, all the grandparents, family, friends many happy days ahead. Loss is never easy. Thankfully, you all had each other.
I read your book over the weekend and was very moved by your story and ability to move on for you and Maddy. I so very much admire you and wish you and your family much happiness in the years to come.
Your book made me appreciate more each and every day with my family and friends. Life is precious and shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Thank you for writing this book and sharing with us.
I saw your interview this morning and one thing that really hit home was saying Liz’s name to keep her alive. I lost my wife in ’06, my son was 9, my daughter 11, she is alive in our hearts because we talk about her daily. Good job being a single dad, best wishes for the future.
