I’d still like to know the “super exciting news” you
alluded to in the Nov 28 post!
Hi Matt! I’m a longtime reader and a lifelong Seattle
resident. A couple of things: 1) Orcas Island is one of my most
favorite places on this entire green planet. I spent eight summers
at YMCA Camp Orkila on the island as a kid, and it is magical.
Maddy should attend someday! It changes kids’ lives and gives them
such fantastic childhood memories. 2) Doe Bay Resort is equally as
awesome. Lots of great memories from that place as well. 3) Doe Bay
has this magical music festival, Doe Bay Fest, that will be held on
August 9 this year. It is an incredible weekend of fun, music, and
island life. Lots of people bring their kids! I’m a big fan, and
think you will be too of the music line-up and laidback style. My
point? You will love the San Juan Islands, and more importantly,
get yourself some tickets for the DBF in August. They are
incredibly difficult to come by, but you can work your magic, I’m
sure. http://www.doebayfest.com/
As much as I’ve loved what you’ve written in the past, this
site really has just become a place for fundraising ads. Sorry to
see the change.
Wow, that sounds AMAZING! I’m not a writer, but I’d like to
be. Do you think this is an event that might be repeated in the
future or is it a one time thing? You probably don’t know that yet.
At any rate, it sounds awesome–enjoy!
P.S. Any chance you’ll be involved in SXSW at all this
year?
Ohhhh, Orcas Island is so awesome! I went there many years
ago when they were opening a new skate park. Upon walking off the
ferry, we learned that there was no way to get where we were going
except hitchhike. The ex and I looked at the helpful person who
told us to hitch a ride like they were insane. “It’s totally safe.
It is how all the kids here get around,” he assured us. So we
walked up to the street, and before we could even put out our
thumbs, a high school girl picked us up and took us to our
destination. Someday, I’d love to go back to the San Juans… Such
a beautiful part of the world.
Hi Matt I would love to go and spend a few day in Bay Doe Resort and Retreat it would be on heck of a time but right now I have a 11 week old baby and my wife would kill me hope you have another workshop
Matt! Long time no talk. We camped at Doe Bay for their summer music festival a few years ago. You’ll see that it’s a special place with unforgettable views and an extremely tasty organic cafe. So glad you’re doing this. Wish we could make it.
